How is the reading experience on the Kompakt compared to a Kindle? Considering some kind of e-reader for my kids so they don’t have to carry a dozen books on a trip. But I’m also considering a second Kompakt for the household.

I read articles on my MK without issue, but the text is noticeably less clear than on a modern e-reader like the Kindle. When I want to read an ebook, I pick up a purpose-built ereader like a Boox device or Kindle. I’m not sure all what goes into why the MK text looks less clear, but part of it may be that it is a 217 PPI screen vs. 300 PPI on a modern ereader.

Use the low-end Kindle for ebooks - the choice is more cost effective

I love using my Kompakt on the beach to read. The E ink is amazingly clear.

I ditched my ereader completely and now only read on the kompakt. I use an app called lithium, which allows me to use the volume buttons to go to the next page, this is really comfortable in landscape mode.

KOreader can do the same, has a lot more features, and is up to date. Lithium is in beta and was last updated in January 2025.

I downloaded the kindle app and exclusively use my kompakt to read. It works great and you can use the volume buttons or a Bluetooth page turner (which you can’t with an actual kindle). I use it all them time including in the sun. Just wish there was a warm backlight option.
