I am new to the Kompakt. Am reading that it doesn’t support RCS messaging? Would love to see this implemented please…. It’s uptake is increasing globally.
That said, partnering with someone like Sunbird or Beeper might do the trick?

Welcome, you are not alone in missing RCS, SMS is universal for messaging but kind of basic.
On the kompakt I am not sure if it’s suitable for some smartphone needs but some people use signal and/or whatsapp successfully
@anon89409232 Yes, you are reading it correctly. Mudita Kompakt does not support RCS & we do not plan on implementing it in the future.
Shame. Do you know if there are any third part apps that might offer this?
I totally get that the Kompact is not supposed to be a full smartphone, but there ay some fundamenals that any phone needs to have in 2026. I think RCS is one of them now.
Can you give some specifics about the fundamentals that you’re looking for? What could RCS provive for you to make your Mudita Kompakt experience better?
I’m asking so that I can have a better idea as what you’re looking to do, in order to do my best to recommend any external/third-party apps that could, perhaps, do the same thing.
I do undersand that Mudita have created a minimalist device… and that’s the appeal.
That said, in the modern world, I feel the key foundational services people need from a cellular portal device:
I totally understand this is a big ask. I get that you/Mudita are a small company. App dev, paltform approvals etc is costly and time-consuming. I know as I used to develop handsets myself, albeit a long time ago.
Keep up the great work.
You can still text & call, PLUS WhatsApp & Signal work well on Mudita Kompakt (I have both installed on my Mudita Kompakt)
As far as NFC payments go, this has been mentioned previously & pass on to the team.
Calendar sync will be available in our MuditaOS K 2.0 update, however, our team says it will be with Google Calendar, and optional.
@guinnsquirrel: I use the DAVx5 app on my new Kompakt (and used it on my previous Kompakt) to synchronize the Etar calendar app with my household’s shared calendar, which resides at our free account at a Nextcloud server in the cloud.
I just asked Brave AI about Microsoft calendars and got this response:
Summary: Microsoft – not Mudita – prevents you from synchronizing directly with Microsoft 365 calendars, but there ARE workarounds for your Kompakt!
Just to show that these are your needs and not everybody’s in te modern world:
Thanks. Will take a look.
@nico.n I will have to agree with you here. I am one of those people who has NEVER paid with a phone (or a watch). AND I’ve never had a banking app on a phone. I only use online banking on a laptop.
Otherwise, it’s cash or cards ![]()
Unfortunately, my bank(s) do not allow not having an app - or I would need a physical banking card reader. I do have a smartphonr in my drawer with those, but I don’t need to use it often.
Maybe I am just a techie/technology appreciator ![]()
I will add (as I have before) that the end-to-end encryption supported by RCS 3.0 is uniquely crucial in the US where everyone either uses Google Message or iMessage and nothing else. The only other useful feature in the case of the Kompakt is the ability to leave group chats, which is impossible with SMS / MMS. Otherwise, I’m happy to keep using the stock messaging app which I’ve been daily driving for a couple of weeks now.
Encrypted messages like others mentioned, read receipts, and the ability to send/receive larger file sizes so photos and videos will less compressed and higher resolution. Sending and receiving photos was an issue on my Kompakt because they would be very pixelated and I did not want to inconvenience people by asking to use a separate app or email to send photos and videos.
Really? That’s very interesting info. I would have thought that iMessage & standard SMS/Texting was the norm. I know that in Europe WhatsApp is KING
However, I did read a survey that roughly 30% of the US population uses WhatsApp because it’s heavily used for international communication and cross-border group chats.
Since 60% of Americans own iPhones, iMessage is extremely common (this is especially true for younger demographics, where iPhone ownership can be as high as 95%). Since iOS 18, Apple has supported RCS so texts to Android users default to RCS now that all four major US carriers support it. My anecdotal experience has been iMessage and RCS are overwhelmingly the most common, with WhatsApp used for international contacts and community groups. But after some research, it looks like I was wrong: Facebook Messenger is by far the most common and WhatsApp is more popular than iMessage.
WOW! That’s a high number. BTW…you that we had users that got FB Messenger working on their Mudita Kompakt?
I wonder what the Skype & Google Hangouts people are doing now, since those services have gone the way of the Dodo bird ![]()
