For some reason, seemingly at random, messages will start only coming through with a vibration even though the ringer is on (and about halfway on its volume slider). This is through the built-in messaging app. It can happen regardless if the phone is locked or unlocked.
Calls still come through with a ringtone. Toggling the ringer mute/unmute doesn’t work, but restarting the phone fixes the issue. To randomly stop receiving text message sounds without notice is frustrating; is there any fix to this?
Hey Nathan, welcome to the forum! I have been having the exact same issue for the past 6 weeks, but in my case restarting the phone doesn’t help. My ringer and notifications will go off at full volume but my text messages make no sound or vibration whatsoever. Really looking forward to this issue being resolved as it leads to me hanging around checking my phone constantly when I’m actively having a conversation or waiting for an important message – kind of the opposite of mindful technology use if you ask me!
Hi all, I was only getting this in the default SMS app. However, I previously had Google Messages partially installed on the phone… I had tried using it when I first got the phone, and I was never able to fully uninstall it when I confirmed it would not work. I had to factory reset the phone and have not had the issue for days. I will reply back here if it comes up again.
As an update to this thread, I was able to get text sounds back after factory resetting my phone and attempting to restore from a backup. However, the backup only contained my contacts, about 70% of my text messages (mainly group messages were either partially or completely gone), and my call history – no settings, external apps (ie. InkOS), photos, music, or any other app data was retained. Beware of this if you choose to go this route and have anything important to you on here; the backup is not a reliable way of preserving all what’s on your phone.
Backup should encompass these parts, so 3rd party apps, music, photos are not included. However, I will ask the team about the messages part because as you wrote, not all your messages were transferred & that seems odd to me.
