So after selling my Kompakt for 400 canadian, I got lucky and found a light phone 3 on reddit that someone is selling to me for 700 and that includes the case and screen protector at no extra cost, so with the money from the kompakt being applied to this purchase I am getting the LP3 for around 650 canadian, I am fine with that. I think I realized ultimately the Light ethos is best for me. I tried the TCL go flip but there is no way to separate text and call notifications (which is very annoying when you are trying to focus)
Excited to get my light phone 3 this week sometime, still love Mudita I just don’t want a phone that looks like a smartphone, brings back to many of my bad addictive habits, but glad this phone works for so many others
@minimalist4life I’m curious how it will compare to your Mudita Kompakt experience. I believe the LightPhone 3 has a larger screen, but it’s OLED & not e ink.
Definitely come back & let us know. I am super interested.
I am curious what drives you toward the LP3 rather than the LP2? I think the LP2 is far more interesting with the small form factor and the E-Ink screen!
I have both the MK and LP3 and call my MK the smarter dumbphone, I use my Lightphone when out on the fields as I am more comfortable about its durability and I have the protection plan, but on other days I enjoy the MK as it allows me to catch up on my reading. With the magic earth maps I actually prefer the MK for navigation because I can save favorites and have offline maps while the lp3 has lost all ability to give me directions when in remote rural areas. Eventually I’ll settle on one but for now both need some bug fixes, for example in my experience Bluetooth has been far superior on the lp3 and it also supports group sms but the MK supporting usb keyboard is also very convenient. Looking forward to hearing about your experience.
Phone was on its way but now its delayed and not moving due to some customs clearance (just my luck lol) yeah for me when I had the LP2, I had it for 6 months and I am use to the set up, the way you download music is simple, and their dashboard is very customizable you can easily remove the tools you don’t need. Ultimately as I said before I don’t want a phone that looks like a smartphone, and the Kompakt was that for me. I shipped it a few days ago now and I don’t miss it at all. I remember when I had the Pure I missed is, I loved that phone, I think at the end of the day when I look around me and see people on their phones all day long its depressing so when I pull my phone out I don’t want to look like everyone else, pulled the LP3 out and its does not looking like a smartphone at all.
Actually been very refreshing last few days, I am using the NOkia 225 and I have left it off, yesterday I went out to the library twice and left my phone at home. I just loved being out and about with no phone.
IMO the LP3 is closer to a smartphone in some ways, than the Mudita. It is fun to see how the Mudita Forum turned into your personal blog , where people can follow how you change your mind, from phone to phone.
I think many of us have been through that and most are still considering if the Mudita is the best fit for their needs. It’s a journey for sure. My hypothetical question is only that, where is the line between our own comfort with minimalism and consumerism and sustainability? Beacuse on the way to find the right fit for us, I dare say we buy more new devices, than an average iPhone user and that leads me to think that it’s just another well thought out trap of capitalism.
This is a very valid point lol, I often think about the time, money, and stress trying to go minimal, but I think its worth it in the end. I would disagree that the light phone 3 is closer to a smartphone, you can’t sideload anything on it, its literally a basic phone. Yes there is a subreddit where they figured out how to access the android later but I have no interest in doing that
Also light phone has a discord that I just joined so not sure how active I will be here on the forums anymore, I shall see, I still have the harmoney clock that I love.
I have no appetite for trying out different phones so I follow your experimenting with interest. I do agree having no phone at all hands down can’t be beat, I often leave the phone at home or in the car if it’s not needed, it’s very liberating.
@minimalist4life I remember this was something that you were concerned about before, but I thought you kind of liked it. Was it too much of a slippery slope?
@thurakanda VERY well stated!!! The issue is so much deeper than “this phone” or “that phone” and since we’re talking LP3, (and capitalism indirectly) the purchase price remains a non-starter. Yeah, yeah, “replaceable” battery almost won me over, but then the lengthy shipping times, the forced change of phone carrier, and the price kept me from pulling the trigger. Even with that, I performed most of my E-ink research with the full intention of getting the LP3, only to (happily) learn of the MK at the very last moment. The MK purchase was a literal “no-brainer” for me and the decision was made almost immediately. Haven’t looked back at the LP3 as the price/value/usability equation tilts heavily towards the MK… Yes, I have had to customize the MK to fit my needs, but having the ability to do so only adds to the pleasure of ownership. Granted, we are all coming from different places - ie. this forum is the closest thing to “social media” that I have ever joined, and really, only joined to thank @madebypixel02 . Being here and hearing the stories only confirms that the issues are so much deeper.
I have both the lp3 and mk. They are both great decices but if anyone thinks that a certain device is going to solve their problems I’m here to tell you that’s not the case. The lp3 while a great device (much like the kompkat) is not without its flaws. The only zen you’ll find at the top of the mountain is the zen you bring up there with you
