Problems with unlocking Kompakt

I sometimes have problems unlocking my Kompakt. I have a pin code and fingerprint set up.

As I understand it, the algorithm works something like this:

  1. Touching the fingerprint reader with a recognized finger unlocks the device;
  2. Touching the fingerprint reader with any other finger (or other part of skin) opens the pin code screen;
  3. Pressing the power button shows the date/time; pressing again goes back to the lock screen.

I experience several problems with this:

  • Sometimes my finger is not recognized, and I even don’t manage to get to the pin code screen, so I have no way to unlock the phone. This may happen when I’m working in the garden or cooking. I imagine it is the same if you wear gloves.
  • Sometimes I hold the phone when it is in my pocket and it unlocks without me realizing.

For the first problem it would be great if there were a way to get to the pin code screen without relying on skin recognition at all. For instance, pressing the power button could cycle through (a) lock screen, (b) date/time screen, (c) pin code screen instead of just (a)–(b). Or the date/time screen and the pin code screen could be combined into one.

For the second problem, I would like to have the option to never let the device unlock with just the fingerprint. So effectively, points 1 and 2 from above would be disabled. But when you’re on the pin code screen, you can choose to use a pin code or your fingerprint. That way, you always have to press a physical button, which happens less easily accidentally.

+1, got this happened too (twice so far, cannot find a pattern). There must be an option to have a PIN validation when Touch is not recognized.

It feels like sometimes it doesn’t capture the finger at all (no vibration).
For the latter, IMO some delay in activating the scan (and maybe longer scan time) could solve the issue too perhaps.

@anon1234 Thanks for the feedback, I will pass it on to our team. I’ve been trying to re-create your issue, but so far, I have not been able to get the same reactions as you.

I also have BOTH a fingerprint lock & a PIN code & it if I somehow touch the scanner with a different finger, the PIN lock comes up & I have to put the pin in or scan the right finger.

You can’t easily reproduce it, as this is some kind of an edge-case. Since the beginning (a week) happened to me just twice.

@urszula Thanks. I can reproduce this easily with a glove or cloth tissue. Touching the sensor through the glove or tissue does not have any effect. Pressing the button brings up the date/time screen, then locks again. There is no way to bring up the pin code screen this way.

When I bring up the pin code screen with an unrecognized finger, I can enter the pin code through a cloth tissue without issues.

So, even if it’s hard to reproduce with bare (clean) hands, I’m expecting issues in winter.

Actually you are 100% right. No gloves needed. Now i can reproduce it 100% percent :slight_smile: Just cover your finger with something (e.g. a cloth).

But in my described case I’m pretty sure, that I used a bare finger… so it may be even something more here. And I couldn’t just swipe up to bring up front the PIN code

Yes, it happens with bare finger as well.

I noticed something else. The scanner works 20 times in a row when I want to unlock it. If I put the Kompact away for 10 seconds for example and then try to unlock it with my finger again, it just doesn’t work.
I have to PRESS the scanner button first, then it somehow “wakes up,” and I can unlock it 20 times in a row again. If I put it away and want do unlock it via fingerprint after a few seconds, the whole thing starts all over again.
