I’m a Norwegian user very interested in backing your Mudita Kompakt (in fact, I already did). Congrats on reaching the goal in under 4 hours btw! However, I was very disappointed to read that there’s no on-screen keyboard support for special characters outside the 8 included languages. All Nordic languages, + several EU countries will now effectively not be able to send daily texts, leaving out a big potential customer base. I believe the effort-to-gain ratio here is pretty obvious by adding a simple keyboard.
So, I kindly ask you to implement a standard Android keyboard that supports special characters by long-pressing the different letters.
@pto123 Welcome to the Mudita community! We’re delighted to have you here, and we truly appreciate your support in backing the Mudita Kompakt. Thank you for your kind words about our campaign. We’re thrilled to have reached our goal so quickly.
We understand your concerns regarding the on-screen keyboard support for special characters beyond the eight included languages. Your feedback is incredibly valuable, and we recognize the importance of accommodating all our users, including those in the Nordic countries and other EU nations.
Please know that our team is aware of this need and is actively exploring options to make communication seamless for everyone.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. If you have any more suggestions or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
We’re always here to listen and improve.
Our team just informed me that we will be adding special characters to the keyboard because this feature isn’t tied to the selected language among the eight available. This means Mudita Kompakt users be able to use those characters regardless of the language setting.
The team stated in a different thread that they will add support for special characters in an update but it will likely not be ready at launch. Just so you know.
I won’t be buying then, at least not right now. What’s the point of a touchscreen phone with on-screen keyboard if I cannot text (and I guess changing language also won’t be easily done).
I don’t get this. AOSP has out of the box support for all languages and special characters. My Boox e-ink tablets also have an on-screen keyboard, adapted to e-ink, based on the standard keyboard, supporting all languages. How could Mudita regress existing functionality?
Thats great to hear! Do you have any comment on @nilss post? Does it really take that long to implement something that is basically supported from the get-go? If you can promise adding this before sending the devices to your backers next year, J believe you have a much better momentum through your KS campaign, just saying. Anyway, thanks again for your positive response to my request! Much appreciated
My guess is that the Mudita dev team has more pressing software development to do on a tight schedule.
To make a more or less direct comparison, the Cyberpunk videogame also got patched afterwards to make it a better experience.
