PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF..Mudita pure in Canada

Depends where, like right now I am in the basement it took like 2 mins to connect again and it has stayed connected, but above ground in one area the signal was going in and out periodically which makes no sense because you would think the low sar would effect the connection more in the basement then above ground, but then when I was the library the connection there was fine, almost seems as if maybe there are certain building materials that block the signal more than others honestly don’t know the reason. Like even last night I was downstairs for like 3 hours and the phone never lost connection

In the end I just need a nice distraction while the Kompakt get here lol, and the Pure is a great distraction because its an awesome phone

So did you need to restart to get the signal back?

Nope not last night, entire time I was out with my family in downtown toronto the phone was fine, even when I was downstairs in a restaurant and in a auditorium connection was perfect I was able to text people, get texts and even made test calls and they are perfect. There are times where yes the signal when going to a new enviroment goes out but for less than 2 mins, than its fine, even that spot in my family room that I thought was a dead zone is fine now. The experience with the phone honestly has been fantastic, been very useable for me no complaints just love it!

@minimalist4life I’m so happy for you that it’s working so well!
I’m a Pure fan too!
I’m curious, specifically what is it about Pure that you love so much?

It just gives me the feeling of calmness and being in the moment. I suffer from anxiety so when I had a smartphone I would be on it constantly it was like a pacifier, The pure is the opposite it is elegant and keeps you in the moment. When I have the phone with me it is not a distraction (well that is sort of a lie when I got it back again I missed it so much I used it a lot lol) , it keeps you connected ON YOUR OWN TERMS. I love the slider that allows you to disconnect when you need to and just be in the moment with family and friends.

The phone also teaches me patience which I am always trying to work on. With triple click texting I try to just breathe and be in the moment and not try to rush or get frustrated. I actually have got quite fast with triple click lol. But I like how everything about the Pure is slow and intentional. We need both these ideals in our lives more often. We live in a a society that has no patience, we are frustrated easy and always want things , craving and mass consumption is a wor;d I am sick of, I try to stay offline as much as possible in fact this forum is the only place I really am online. I am on you tube here and there but never more than an hour of internet time a day I strive for sometimes less. Today is my daughters bday and once all the guest have arrives and no one needs to reach me my Pure will be in offline mode away in my room

Also my son has already asked if he can have my pure when my Kompakt arrives, I said…I will think about it lol

Also even though the Calendar does not work I have set up the alarm to go off at 630am, 12pm, and 3pm, when this alarm goes off I review my to do list in my notes app, in this way I will not miss important appointments etc, cool workaround I figured out that has helped me stay on track with tasks!

Thanks for sharing - these two points are what I believe mindful technology is partly about.

I am not in Canada, but so glad you figured out how to get the Pure to work for you! I’m inspired to try to get mine to work better… I do not enjoy the exercise of finding another phone to work so just default to my iPhone in greyscale with minimal apps. It’s not ideal and still a slippery slope on especially stressful days. That iPhone may be on its last leg so I may be in the market for a phone anyway so considering my options again…

It works but even when it was connected I noticed after testing the phone even though it would show it was connected when I tried making calls from my sons phone they did not work, after much thought I think I am going to be returning the phone, will miss it but when I thought about it that was like 350 bux canadian I dropped for a phone I am only going to use till the kompakt comes out, so sadly I will be returning it :frowning:

I ended up ordering the Punkt again to use until the Kompakt gets here, I realized for me even the light phone 2 is a distraction, I am very addicted to tech, music apps, podcasts are all addictions honestly just trying to distract ourselves from the present, I am honestly just fed up of being connected all the time. Even with the pure it was my addiction, constantly buying it trying to get it to work and when it did work for awhile it was a distraction for me, I think I have a very severe tech addiction, it has improved over time but I honestly just wish I had a phone that could just call, I am not even sure I will use the Kompakt now because I am afraid that will become my new obession, it will be easy to text on so not sure anymore honestly, for me trying to find the perfect dumbphone has been an EXHAUSTING EXPERIENCE, I have bought, returned, sold so many dumbphones over the past 4 years that buying dumbphones I think is an addiction for me

I can sort of understand that, as I’ve spent some time researching non smart phone options. I haven’t pulled any triggers except on the Pure just because it’s time and energy to experiment. A smartphone is always a slippery slope for me, and thus the prospect of a dumb phone is very appealing. I just wish there’s a basic phone for talk & text I can pick up at the store. It is major information overload to research and experiment (and for wanting simple features only!)

Yep, I feel you. The obsession is the obsession, whether it’s over a smartphone or a ‘dumbphone’. I keep thinking to myself, “So I find the ‘perfect’ device, then what?”
As a consequence I am rethinking everything and gradually disconnecting. I leave the smartphone at home now, alternating between Punkt and Pure when outside the house. I have taken the Garmin off my wrist and use only it for training, wearing a regular watch during the day. And I got a DAB+ radio for at home, one which plays podcasts too. I’m gradually starting to feel like I did 15 years ago. There’s no need to be obsessed with all this stuff. The Kompakt in my pocket is just going to make things easier than they are by texting easier, making notes easier and making calendar entries on the go, without all the other distractions such as browsers etc.

Yeah last week I have truly simplified. I factory reset my Cat S22 Flip and put it away. I am in the process of selling my Light phone 2, returning my pure, and my Punkt is arriving Monday. I downloaded music onto my Harmony and I use that now as my reading music etc, I use to use the Cat flip for that. Over the weekend I literally put my light phone away and did not use it and that was liberating. Just being away from any sort of device smart or dumb is a true letting go of attachment to everything. Also realized I don’t really need podcasts as much as I think I do, it is exhausting trying to keep up with Podcasts feels like an extra job. I now turn my phone off at 8pm and I don’t turn it on until like 8am the next day and I make sure it is away from my room turned off in another room. My new goal is to use my dumbphone as little as possible and tech as well. Whenever I can I want to disconnecct for long periods of time from any tech, lap top included. I know for me I just feel better when I am off from the net, even forums like this can become another addiction so I will be taking long breaks from forums as well. I went back and started re-reading Digital Minimalism by Cal new port, getting myself reset for a better digital life. At the end of the day dumbphones can be distractions too I have realized

Even the quote on the Pure today echoes letting go of everything…

This is great, much like myself. I also am addicted to podcasts and also found they were dominating me. That’s why I bought a small JBL DAB+ radio to carry around the house and listen to the radio instead, so long as I stay up-to-date with news and current affairs then I am happy and I will catch-up with podcasts ‘when I have time’. I have also found that ‘trying’ to give-up tech has the opposite effect, giving-up gradually over time has far better results, it can happen naturally.

@urszula do you know if we’ll have quotes on the Kompakt?

I literally carry my Harmony around lol. From the moment it wakes me up in the morning, i take it in the shower (not literally lol) and play a song I like, then I meditate with it in my living room, eat breakfast, come back and play the harmony again, playing specifically focus music, classical etc, while I am reading. This is why I have been able to put my Cat S22 flip away permanently, factory reset it and put it away only to be used when I go on a trip. I love this new routine because before I would always need my Cat S22 to listen to music, podcasts etc and now my Harmony has replaced it, yes I have to me more patient and intentional because it does not have playlists for music but I find I like this, let me work on my patience. Really love my new set up!

FYI the only reason I am on the forum right now during my morning routine is because I am downloading podcasts onto my harmony, my normal morning routine involves no internet whatsoever.

Sounds great to me. I listen to radio in the morning, cold shower and then yoga/meditation but generally in silence. Then radio back on. You have a good routine going on there. And I am only ever on the forum now because it’s on my work laptop, otherwise I wouldn’t see any of this.

Yeah I am re-reading digital minimalism by Cal Newport and I am reconsidering again my relationship with tech, specifically now by dumbphone. It is a distraction for me, so I have implemented a new rule that if my family is at home with me phone is turned off not anywhere near me. If my wife and kids are out and I need to be reached than I will have it turned on but again out of sight, loud enough so I can only hear the ringtone, text messages notifications are turned off, once again last night I had my light phone off from 4pm to 8am the next day, just felt fully liberated, I love this new routine I have. I am now at the library accessing their computer on a break from reading. I bring no laptop with me at all, next time I access the net is at lunch when I watch you tube videos about Dumbphone digital minimalism etc, I find accessing you tube from my tv less addictive vs from a phone (when I use to have a smartphone) or the laptop.

I know down the road I will consider the Punkt MC02, it is the Punkt smartphone but its their own ego system, data is safe etc, not as a full time use device, but I know eventually I will need a smartphone for work and travel purposes because my Cat S22 flip will eventually not suffice to be able to access slack etc. This is long way down the road though, I am in no interest in a smart device right now, I truly dislike them, even seeing other people use them gives me a sickening feeling lol
