Paying with the Kompakt (kind of)

It started as kind of a joke but this is my cheap workaround for de-googled contactless pay “with” the Kompakt.
Seriously though, I’m so used to only having my phone with me that I’ve been caught out at the supermarket checkout a few times without any means of payment.
It works flawlessly through the case. I’m not sure if this has impact on battery life, though, with the card - maybe - triggering the phone’s NFC constantly? So far this works fine for me

Good idea! I will try to do the same.

Ha! That’s a great idea! I will try it.

Used it a week plus now after 17 years of never leaving the house without an iPhone. Apple Pay is the one thing I find I really miss.

Great post! I was actually wondering if anyone has tried this yet.
Does the MK still fit properly in the case with the card in there? What do you think about the official case?

I have something like 9 different debit cards and CCs (from 6 different banks) plus the company cards haha, so I guess I’ll have to pick a favorite  and still carry an actual wallet when traveling.

Wish there was an open source alternative to GPay, but in my experience, 99% of banks still don’t offer native NFC integration in their apps

I totally know that feeling  After using Apple Pay for so long, I almost went out without my wallet for lunch break a few times.

There is a weird genious in that. Although I think magnets may interfere with chips on credit cards.

Someone can bump your pocket with a flipper zero and read your card info or use something else to charge your card be careful!

Thanks for raising this!
While this is also true for a wallet, carrying your card in the phone like this might lead you to unconsciously expose yourself to that risk + there is obviously no feedback or confirmation on the phone when your card is charged. Also, fraud could go unnoticed for a longer time because we all try to check our banking apps less often
So, yes. Be careful!

I did this with my last (smart)phone because my bank isn’t supported by by google pay). Just a heads up that it massively reduced the life of the case - presumably because of extra strain on the case, and repeatedly taking the case off and on when I needed to take the card out.
