I am happy to see her say that AntennaPod and Magic Earth work well on the Kompakt.

  • If I can move my daily use of AntennaPod from a SIM-less deGoogled Pixel 6 to the Kompakt, then that would be one less reason to use the Pixel 6 daily.
  • If I find that Magic Earth meets more of my needs than does Kompakt’s Map app, then I will sideload that app, too.

I think the main reason I may not even attempt to do this is I don’t want to brick my device, I have gotten along fine with a dumb phone with no apps on it, so I am leaning more and more to just keep the Kompakt the way it is

Also I am confused when she says the kompakt map app does not have turn by turn directions? What exactly does it do then? When I put a location in it just gives me written directions on the screen about how to get to the location?

Hopefully, someone with a Kompakt will post something about the Map app’s ability – or inability – to give turn-by-turn directions. A list of turns would be fine as a pedestrian but would not be very helpful for a driver.

I mean it is better than nothing but I am hoping in a future update they would have turn by turn directions

I think it has been discussed under another thread and @urszula has confirmed that there is turn-by-turn navigation

@thurakanda: You are correct that it HAS been confirmed that there IS turn-by-turn navigation in the Map app. Yay!

Although the Map app lacks live-traffic updates, I now plan NOT to sideload Magic Earth (which has those updates), given that I see the Map app on the Kompakt as a backup to what I use regularly when driving – a Garmin DriveSmart 65 with HD Traffic.
