Additionally, it would be good to know if the Kompakt itself is E2E encrypted (the hard drive, native apps such as Note taking apps, etc) and not visible to either Mudita or any other third parties. It definitely should be, as this is now industry standard.
Just FYI, a physical kill switch is unnecessary overkill. I have followed some discussions in the GrapheneOS community debating this issue. So in fact, airplane mode in Android AOSP will completely deactivate the cellular modem. Similarly, the wifi switch and bluetooth switch will deactivate those modules (not in Googled Android, only AOSP!). Also, when an app has no permission to access microphone, it cannot. There are no known exploits to circumvent these safeties. If they exist, they will cost millions to use on a device. It’s safe to say nobody on this forum has such a threat level. If you are a Snowden or leader of a nation state, you may choose a device where the microphone, speakers (because speakers can be used as microphones) and modem are removed, and use it only encrypted over wifi through a wired headset.
I wonder if the Offline+, also switching off hardware, will reduce the phone’s EMF output? I imagine it will, and I am interested in more information from Mudita about this, if possible?
Reducing EMF as much as possible is important for those with EMF sensitivity, like myself and being able to use some features of the phone with reduced EMF would be great.
One of the things I love the most about Pure is it’s low ‘in use’ SAR. For me it ensures more safe use of phone technology.
It’s low sar is the main reason the phone was a failure in North America so there better not be these same issues again with the Kompakt
Physical Beats Screen
I love that my AOSP-based Sunbeam Wireless flip phone lets me activate Airplane mode by pulling down from the top of the internal SCREEN – even in locked mode! – and tapping the airplane icon. I use this, for example, at the start of a doctor appointment, many of which urge patients to silence their cellphones during the appointments.
However, I did not remember until just now that I had activated Airplane mode for a doctor appointment more than 24 hours ago. Unfortunately, there is no indicator on the closed flip phone that Airplane mode has been activated.
So, if I end up getting a Mudita Kompakt, then I will appreciate that I can look at the position of the PHYSICAL Offline+ switch to see that I am blocking all calls.
What does “deactivate” mean?
@urszula: Does ¨deactivate" mean that Offline+ Mode
a. turns OFF the electricity to the GSM modem?
– OR –
b. leaves the electricity to the GSM modem ON but blocks the Kompakt from using it?
If the answer is (a), then Offline+ Mode also could be called Lowered-Radiation Mode!
Nice re-implementation of nice Pure`s feat, for the new generation. Also design bears some resemlence.
@kirkmahoneyphd I’ll ask the Mudita Kompakt team & get back to you.
Hello, @urszula. Any update on my(perhaps-nitpicky) question?
@kirkmahoneyphd I just followed up with the team about this. I will let you know. Thanks for the patience.
@kirkmahoneyphd I’m back

Wonderful! This means Offline+ Mode disables all cellular-tower contact with the Kompakt WITHOUT powering down the Kompakt.
- No cell-tower triangulation while in Offline+ Mode
- No calling 911 in the USA while in Offline+ Mode
- No wireless emergency alerts in the USA while in Offline+ Mode
In contrast, NONE of these actions blocks wireless emergency alerts, calling 911, or cellular-tower triangulation:
- removing a SIM card;
- using a software switch to inactivate an installed SIM card;
- activating Airplane Mode.
Because a single, physical switch enables Offline+ Mode on the Kompakt, feature #3 is especially handy in situations in which one wants to prevent noisy emergency alerts from disrupting an otherwise-quiet environment (such as at a funeral or polling place) – but without powering down the Kompakt! Sweet!
OMG I had no idea!
One of the privacy dangers of eSIMs is that one cannot remove them, unlike with a SIM, so the cellphone owner must TRUST that any software ‘switch’ to deactivate the eSIM actually deactivates it.
I just realized: The owner of a Kompakt with only an eSIM “installed” can KNOW that he or she truly is (virtually) removing the eSIM by putting the Kompakt in Offline+ Mode, given that Offline+ Mode turns OFF the electricity to the GSM modem. Sweet!
This is a selling point for Offline+ Mode, @urszula, for those of us who care about privacy.
@kirkmahoneyphd This is a GREAT selling point
Thanks for remining me.
And should be also extensively advertised and put everywhere ![]()
