My screen cracked while sitting in my pocket

This is a first for me after a couple decades of using mobile devices.
I kept getting accidental emergency call dialing presses while it was in my pocket, so I flipped my phone to face away from my leg which put it face-to-face with my door card. A single grain of sand ended up sandwiched between them, cracking the screen.

I’ve usually found cases to be more important than screen protectors. Maybe this phone is the opposite?

I hate the screen protector on mine, but I only keep it because e-ink displays are very sensitive. They can break even if the glass on top doesn’t break.

I’m using a pouch for mine, I find it more important than just the case.

Maybe the pouch could have saved it. Are you using the same as what came in the box or some other pouch?

I used the one that came in the box, but since it’s white it gets dirty quite easy.
Then I found this thin and stretchy pouch that came with some PeakDesign accessory for my old camera. And it fits the device perfectly.

It’s super thin so it wouldn’t protect much from drops, but I’m very careful how I handle my device and I just want to protector the screen from scratches.
