My journey with Kompakt

First of all, I wanted to thank Mudita for creating Kompakt. I’ve been trying to have a more rational approach to technology for two years. I was keeping an eye on a few projects, but in the end I decided to try the Kompakt, and I couldn’t be happier. There’s a combination of freedom, calm, and practicality that immediately convinced me.

I’ve always been enthusiastic about technology, but in recent years, I’ve increasingly realized how intrusive, frustrating, and manipulative technology has become. At first, I thought it was a social media problem, but after deleting it from my smartphone, I still didn’t feel well. The constant flow of information, things to watch, buy, own, and the background noise of the internet continued to disturb me and make me feel unwell.

So I decided to switch to a simpler phone, and here I am. I thought the transition from iPhone to Kompakt would be much more traumatic, but everything went smoothly. I’ve become more aware. I use my phone much less and moved some tasks to my computer/tablet. I’ve regained control over the music I listen to. One thing in particular I noticed was that I no longer receive notifications, not even WhatsApp ones. At first, it seemed hard to digest. But then I realized something very simple and banal: I don’t need to be constantly reachable. It may seem silly, but I was so used to it that I’d forgotten how normal it was.

Now I have my music, my podcasts, some books, and I’ve limited myself to downloading WhatsApp to communicate. I thought I’d need a browser, but for now, I don’t feel the need. I’m considering including a mail app and i read that the creator of CalmApps was interested in creating one and I’d like to test it out. I think it’s useful to have at least the main address easily accessible.

Anyway, I’m feeling better, I’m feeling more active. I think it’s a journey, but I couldn’t be happier!

I have just a couple of suggestions:

Mudita Team, we really needed a timer

Music. The app is very nice, but it should take metadata of the files, i think it won’t cause problems with track arrangement. I hope there’s a future way to select tracks by artist or album. Creating playlists is very slow; it would be better if you could add them directly from the track player. I tried Calm Music but I don’t want to give up the widget on my home screen.

Memo/Reminders. I don’t know if it goes against the Mudita ethos, but a small reminder app with active notifications would be really useful. I find it very useful for birthdays and bill deadlines. Alternatively, adding the ability to generate events with yearly, weekly, or daily repetitions to the calendar would be enough.

App Icon. It may seem silly, but seeing the WhatsApp icon completely different from the others really bothers me. If it were possible, (perhaps via Mudita Center?), being able to change them would be really nice.

Thanks!

Glad you like your Kompakt. I have similar requests as you: a task/reminders app (with folders), and the ability to easily create app icons that match the Mudita Kompakt OS. The latter should be able to be implemented in the Mudita Center. An email app would be nice, but since the Kompakt runs on Android 12, which no longer is supported by Google, I do not feel secure allowing private information on the Kompakt.

Having the music widget be accessible to third parties such as CalmMusic or CalmCast should be an easy implementation on Mudita’s end.

Hopefully we can a new update soon that might address some of these suggestions.

I use music bee to sort by folder and manage my music. Give it a go. Cheers.
