MuditaOS K 1.1.1 "SMS" App Missing Basic Feature

@kirkmahoneyphd No, that’s not it at all- Here in Poland (different countries/different networks) those type of messages behave differently. So, our team is working on it. I think @Sharaz posted about this in the Kickstarter, that it will be added after the launch.
This features just behaves differently in Poland than in the US. That’s all. So even if it’s added & it’s updated in a software update & you can send group message, I don’t think I will be.

My Example from Today

Please allow me to give an example from today of how group texting in the USA is a basic / expected / of-course-it-can-do-that! cellphone feature.

Leaving home for an appointment, I remembered that I might have to start a text message to a group while away from home. My SIM was in my Kompakt. My Kompakt does NOT support this. My flip-phone DOES support this. (Of course it does!) I moved my SIM from my Kompakt to my flip-phone, which I then took with me to my appointment.

I later returned from the appointment to my home. I wanted to keep testing calling, etc., on my Kompakt during my 14-day trial. I moved my SIM from my flip-phone back to my Kompakt, knowing that I could move my SIM back to my flip-phone should I want to start another group text message.

This was my example from today. I could give a similar example from yesterday and the day before yesterday. This is tedious and impractical. I did not buy the Kompakt to accompany my flip-phone everywhere I go. I bought the Kompakt to replace my flip-phone.

Thanks. I found it – from November 2024:

Assuming that the “initial launch” continues until the North America-optimized version goes to full price, the question remains:

  • How soon does “an update following” mean?

What I appreciate now is that Mudita is asking US-based buyers of the Kompakt:

  • to trust that the SMS app will fully support group texting at some unknown point in the future;
  • to use a sideloaded, clunky workaround until that unknown point in the future.

That could be several months from today, right, @Sharaz?

@kirkmahoneyphd YUP that’s the post. We are working on getting out more info as to what features could be expected & when. So, stay tuned for that soon.
PS: I’m watching the Karen Read case at the moment & I think they have proven that SMS messages (including Group Chats) are all able to be extracted from the operator. Yikes

Thank you, @urszula. If I keep my Kompakt past my 14-day trial, then I am trusting that Mudita will add this basic feature soon thereafter. I do not want to miss the window to get a refund and then see several months later that this basic feature is still missing.

Yes, I learned from Rob Braxman that SMS/MMS messages can persist at your cellular carrier even after you delete them from your cellphone. Plus, the US federal government keeps every text message. I treat texting as if I were corresponding by postcard. And, I treat encrypted messaging with anyone who has a new Pixel or iPhone as if I were corresponding by postcard, given that these devices have onboard AI that let them, as Rob says, “See what you see, hear what you hear, and know what you know.”

This is what I learned from the Karen Read case. The witnesses deleted group chats in which they were comparing testimony, and getting on the same page as to what to tell the police, but POW, the defense has ALL THE CHATS and made the witness read them out loud in court.

IMHO only Signal or Session can be deemed secure enough for any conversations, but for extra concerns face-to-face is the most secure.

Update: I uninstalled Fossify Messages after discovering that it was not seeing all of my contacts.

Yeah that has to be annoying to do that every time

Sad to see you might have to return it, for me as I mentioned I have one group messaging thread but its not that important to me, its barely active, but I can see how this is a must for a lot of people, its just sad that even with the Kompakt there always seems to be that 1 issues that Mudita does not get right causing people to return the device, they really need to get better at avoiding this situation, this is their second device they need to get their stuff together by now

One workaround when I am away from my flip-phone could be for me to text-message one person in the group and ask him or her to share my message – as a group text – with everyone else + me.

I compared the in-bright-sunlight usability of my Kompakt with my deGoogled Pixel 6. The former is usable; the latter is unusable. If I decide by the end of the week that this usability issue outweighs everything else, then I will not return the Kompakt.

Mudita Support promised a week ago to ship my missing Pebble Gray case, but I still have no tracking number and have not received the case. As a result, because I find the Kompakt to be slippery in my hands, I tend these days not to carry it with me as much as I would carry my flip-phone, which has a protective shell and a belt holster.

Hopefully it all works out and you are able to use the device, it is unfortunate that people have to decide to return it because a basic feature does not work properly, at this point in the game that should not be happening

@anon7028788 It’s a feature that will be added after the premiere, like @Sharaz communicated on Kickstarter.

And I would also like to add this feature/improvement to the the SMS-app:

  • When opening the sms app - show the list of recent contacts/messages. As of now It will show the latest thing you interacted with.

Wrote this in a different thread first but I think it fits better here.

IMO this one might need some additional thought (such as a timeout before this behavior happens). If I’m drafting a message, quickly click home and then open SMS again, I’d want to still see the message I was drafting, not be reset to messages list immediately. But first let’s get those group texts!

I’ve posted about this elsewhere on the forum, because I didn’t see this topic, but I don’t think the SMS app allows us to click links recieved via SMS, and that would be great.

Also, on the topic of setting another SMS app by default, my Kompakt has this weird display of the text being all squished up on the left side, and I can’t scroll to choose the app I wanna use by default. Am I the only one with the issue ?

Your thought is correct, per posts by @urszula. The SMS app would have to support use of the WebView technology. Mudita designed it NOT to support use of that technology.

Didn’t know about that, thank you !

@starvin_fish I answered your other post. If you don’t have a browser, then how would that link open?

I saw that, thanks !
