I remember a survey a couple of years ago where Mudita invited people to vote on which mobile phone we were most interested in. Full disclosure: I voted for a Mudita Pure 2, but am still eagerly awaiting delivery of my Mudita Kompakt
Have you ever run or thought about running something similar for a “slightly smart” minimalist digital watch?
I ordered and really loved the Mudita Moment, but ultimately missed a few digital features such as an activity monitor. I also found it slightly too big for my taste (face size, not thickness).
My ideal digital watch would be heavily based on some of the best features/design of the Mudita Harmony with at least some sort of activity monitor/step counter, perhaps a similar size and (square) shape to an Apple Watch. (Can I pre-order now please? )
Others may prefer a couple of minimal “smarter” features, hence the title of this post.
Someone mentioned this on the reddit (was it you? lol). I have a few open source “smart” watches (Watchy, Bangle.js) that I just don’t connect to my phone. It would be cool to have a well-featured, e-ink, digital watch that works out of the box without just being an extension of a person’s phone. “Smart” features without a smartphone could be:
Mudita’s meditation app/breathing circles would probably be a good fit
Alarm functions similar to Harmony
That said, there are Casio watches that include the functions above with a 7-10 year (or indefinite w/solar) battery life - they’re just lacking e-ink & the Mudita branding, so I’m not sure what the business case is for Mudita to hop in. But maybe I’ll be proven wrong!
Clock
Calendar
Alarm (incl gentle wake-up)
Meditation timer
Pedometer or even better activity tracking with daily targets
E-ink
No WiFi, Bluetooth only if required for other features
Maybe stopwatch & countdown timers
I’d love a gentle light like the Harmony, soft square edges like the Pure and the same straps as the Moment
Agreed, although Casio watches are both cheap and “minimalist” in the sense that they have limited functionality, but they are not minimalist physically (far from it in many cases, with a lot going on on the watch face).
Looks like this isn’t something this community is clamouring for…
Maybe a minimalist smartwatch “lite” would be overkill, and the market for a simple digital watch is too competitive, so how about a minimalist activity tracker that ensure you get enough activity, but also reminds you to be mindful somehow (I’m thinking something that achieves much the same as the dots on the Mudita Moment here)? @urszula is this something Mudita have considered? If you’re able to share just curious whether this is something you have considered and written off as uneconomical, or I can retain a slither of hope you’ll develop something in this space someday
We are always considering community feedback. I think anyone who’s been on this forum for any extended period of time knows that we’re all about meeting our community’s needs. That’s as much as I can say about this
