Just wanted to say that the Mudita Kompakt is exactly the phone I’ve always wanted.
A privacy-focused, distraction-free E-Ink phone with the ability to sideload what you need. It’s perfect that you can only sideload apps while connected to a computer but don’t have access to an app store or browser while on the road. It’s usually too easy to reinstall a browser to look something up and so quick to get sucked in again. I’m looking forward to seeing how my browsing behavior will change with this.
Congratulations on the concept! I actually haven’t found any other phone or OS that provides the same functionality, and I’ve been looking for a long time. It’s shocking how hard it is to find something that functions in today’s world but doesn’t suck you in.
Overall, this is a very good package, and for the price, a good deal. A few little software updates and it’d be perfect.
For future hardware updates, my wish list would be:
Front camera for banking and calls
Better camera quality
5G for hotspots
Higher screen resolution with smaller bezels
Stronger GPS (it struggles to find position - could be a software issue)
Hi. I did install a browser, for convenience sake and emergencies. I was hesitant at first, but because of the small screen, low-res black and white with slow refresh, it’s a pain to use. Excellent.
Totally agree with you. This is why I love this phone, you can sideload what you need and then remove the app store, so you don’t have it on you to waste time looking up apps. It is exactly the right amount of friction. I have all the apps I need on this phone and nothing more, when I am out and about it basically stays out of sight, I am really working on using it as little as possible and trying not even have it in my pocket, my goal is to literally have it in my hands as little as possible and to keep it out of sight with the just the ringer on to get phone calls, there is literally nothing else to do on this phone and i LOVE it that way, even as I type this from the library it sits it my bag out of sight.
It really is the best minimalist phone on the market because of the flexibility it gives you to sideload what you need and as you said you never get sucked into over using the phone.
