MK and Withings

Does anyone here use a Withings smartwatch and app? I’d like to know whether it works with the Mudita Kompakt or not. It would probably be the only app I’d sideload, but for me it’s extremely important. Thanks in advance!

I have a Withings Steel HR Sport (watch), and a Mudita Kompakt,
and tried using the Kompakt as my primary phone for a bit (when I’d just got it, about 1½ month ago now), but then [various things in my life happened, and is happening], so it is now my secondary phone.

While it was my primary phone, I had the Withings app installed and my watch connected to it, BUT
even though I run inkOS on it, I haven’t activated admin settings or changed any app-running-permissions, so I think the Withings app just got background-shut-down.

I can’t remember getting any notifications transferred to my watch. Then again, my Kompakt didn’t get that many notifications at all.
Also, it was inkOS v.0.3 then, it’s 0.4 now and I can now access e.g. DuraSpeed through the (swipe down, but mid-screen, -menu), without going through a terminal etc…

(Sorry for not answering earlier - I saw your post, but hoped that someone actually using the Kompakt-Withings-combination could give you a proper answer.)

I’m not so much interested in notifications as in the app itself working properly and the necessary information being transmitted via Bluetooth from the watch to the app. Based on what you said, it seems there is hope  Thank you!

I’m not 100% sure of if I got all information through the Kompakt, or if my watch was somehow still connected to my other phone, as I remember having the app on both phones … hmmm … let’s test some things: I’ve now

  • removed the Withings app from my other phone, and “forgot” (removed) my two Withings devices from my other phone’s bluetooth connections
  • then (re-)connected both of them to the Withings app on my Kompakt.

Now, under “Connected Devices”, my Steel HR Sport (watch) is visible, but it also says “Disconnected” beneath it.
My Body+ (scale) is listed under “Known Devices”, that too has a “Disconnected” beneath it.

If I now go into the Withings app, it does say “Connected” on the info page for my watch, and if I choose “Set the time”, it is connected (I can set the time).

Sooo … I guess it’s kind of connected, after all?
I’ll try this out for a bit. (Might revert back after the weekend.
While I’m at it, was it anything specific you wanted to know the function of (not guaranteed that I can check “everything” for you), or just “it’s possible to run the Withings app on the Kompakt, and it’s also possible to have Withings devices bluetooth-connected to it”?)

I’ve got pretty much the whole Withings lineup – ScanWatch2, BodySmart scale, blood pressure monitor (BPM Connect), and thermometer.
For me, the most important thing is that the app runs smoothly. I’m pretty sure the data syncs fine as long as the app’s working right. Thanks for taking the time!

morning report:
Yesterday evening I activated these notifications to be shown on my watch:
Incoming calls, Messages;
applications: Alarm, Clock, Phone, SMS, Telegram

and then set one alarm in the watch, one alarm in the Clock app, and one alarm in the Alarm app.

None of them showed up in my watch, even though I could hear the Clock and the Alarm apps working as intended on the Kompakt. (Slightly unsure of the in-the-watch alarm, as it’s been a bit fiddly even on my other phone.)

The watch has recorded my Sleep Quality, Average heart rate, and Steps, and transferred them to the Withings app, though.

I’ve now allowed Withings in DuraSpeed, and “Connected to your Steel HR Spor…” is now visible in the inkOS notification tray. (“DuraSpeed does not restrict background activities of apps switched on in the list.”)

I set a new in-the-watch alarm, and it went off as it should!
Also re-set the Clock and Alarm apps, with near-future alarms, but neither of them showed notifications on the watch.
Of those three alarms, the in-the-watch alarm is the one I actually want (for the gentler “smart wake-up” feature), so I’ll settle for that.

Also tested post-DuraSpeed settings change:
incoming phone call, notification in watch: :ballot_box_with_check:
incoming SMS, notification in watch: :ballot_box_with_check:

I’m getting closer to how I want it set up!
(Telegram notifications get to the watch if Telegram is actively running on the Kompakt.
Oh well, at least I can get those notifications via inkOS.
Also, I began this post in the morning. It’s afternoon now.)

In short: The Withings app seem to work as intended.
Getting notifications is a bonus.

Of course, having stuff allowed to run in the background will affect the battery life :skull_and_crossbones:, so it’s a balance of needs.

Thanks for the detailed overview! The results look really promising
It seems like the data is syncing nicely from the watch to the app, and that’s the main thing for me. Whether the notifications (calls, texts) make it from the phone to the watch doesn’t matter in my case — I’m planning to turn them off anyway.
Anyway, thanks to your feedback, I feel confident enough to give Kompakt a try and go ahead and order it!
