Meet Mudita Kompakt

I’m also looking forward to specific information about SAR value, how to update the phone, how to download/install apps, and available network bands. I hope this info will be available at the launch…

Couple of questions:

  1. Will the Kompakt support messaging apps like WhatsApp?
  2. Can non-native apps be installed? If so, what can we expect of the performance?
2a. Will the phone support NFC and banking apps? If so, how is the security? My phone is my only wallet these days and it would be a shame if that can’t be used.
2b. Will it be possible to download 3rd party music apps like Spotify? And meditation apps like headsoace?
2c. Can a third party maps app that be downloaded? Wouldn’t want to miss out on local traffic information and speed cams when driving.
3… Are there any previews about scrolling speed when browsing?

Seems like most of my questions are about additional apps. Will it be clear before the kickstarter launches what the software allows for? I’d loved to throw away my smartphone for an e-ink device, as long as it doesn’t limit functionality beyond useless gaming apps.

Or at least will these and CPU/RAM/Storage/.Sensors and BT etc. standards be avail at time of KS?

@galtions Updates will be done via Mudita Center, as well as OTA.
As for SAR & more info on networks/bands, I will ask our team when we plan on releasing this info.

I found a solution for watching YouTube videos without a Google ID:

  • I paste a YouTube video’s URL into the FreeTube app on my Linux-based computer, and FreeTube plays the video without asking me for a Google ID!

Ah if they coild only integrate YT search and skip copying  Does it bloick commercials? Does it work on Deb Based MINT (LMDE)?

Thanks for directing our inquiries towards the development team.

I would also like to request clarification on a few key points of more technical nature:

  1. Is sideloading of apps going to be allowed or blocked? Not asking for alternative app stores, but specifically for the following examples of sideload-installs: a/ APK package saved to phone’s internal storage and install launched from phone’s file browser, or b/ APK package installed via computer over ADB.
  2. Will Mudita Kompakt phones support USB MTP? I personally found it disappointing that this communication protocol got removed from Pure’s MuditaOS and is the reason I am still not updating my Pure past version 1.7.0.
  3. Will the following Android functionalities remain available to be turned on by the user: Developer Mode and ADB (Android Debug Bridge)?

As far as I know the OS of Mudita Kompakt will be based on AOSP and the latter has all of the functionalities listed above baked-in already.

Nevertheless I would appreciate having the development team’s response for more certainty.

MTP meant that you could connect phone directly and transfer files, unlike OTG mambo jumbo on newer Androids? And was removed from Pure? (altough I dont see this usable on Pure except using it as USB Flash and for ,mp3, it simply does not support anything, even TXT)

Exactly Media Transfer Protocol – intended for generic access to phone’s storage (the media/user files subset) and most computer OS’es nowadays support it. Even iOS allows you to browse pictures and documents if you don’t have iTunes installed.
I believe it is practical to have it enabled and not require you to run Mudita Center for simple tasks like copying some pictures, songs or text files, so that you don’t need to run MC on every computer you use or worse – wait for its automatic software updates when in a hurry.

Well, I would exhange developers OTP mechanicsm on my newer smart for old scholl media transfer via cable and USB driver anyday. However, its a bit beats purpose of Center IF it all can be well done via it.

It looks like a good phone but the price of 299 Euros is too expensive for me. At the moment 299 Euros is about $500 Australian Dollars. The most expensive phone that I ever purchased was the Mudita Pure which was about $530 Australian Dollars.

In the last few years, I’ve really been cutting down on my mobile phone usage. I got a landline phone set up at home a couple of years ago and I have a landline phone at work. Now I only ever turn on my mobile phone about 4 or 5 times per month and normally only for 1 or 2 minutes each time. When I saw that the price of the Mudita Kompakt was 299 Euros, I couldn’t justify that cost for a device that I will only use for less than 15 minutes per month.

299 eur is not so expensive for such phone, other e=ink phones are more expensive, including outlet Pure

If you only use a cellphone for calling and maybe some texts, the Kompakt is not for you. My 24EUR dumbphone can also do that.

Ah, its better then 309 USD Pure for sure  Dont dismiss eink magic. OS is minimalistic, but let see where it will grow from there since now “all powers are to MOS K”
