So I decided to download all of the available maps in the app, and I noticed that if I force quit the app and then open it again it takes forever to load my actual location.
When I only had 2-3 maps (my country and some neighbouring countries) it loaded instantly, but after I download all of the european maps now it takes 2-3 minutes to load and sometimes even crashes.
Is this normal or is this a new bug to report?
I just want to ask @urszula if this delay/lag is normal when you download a lot of maps in the native app, and I really hope it is something that the team will look into! Having in mind that they are optimising the navigation in the July update…
So, I did a test today. I have downloaded all of Europe + Russia maps. A total of 71 GB on my SD card.
I force stopped the app and switched it on again. I took exactly 9 minutes and 30 seconds to actually load up the map.
In the beginning it shows just a blank screen, then the dot shows up and eventually it loads the map and my location. But almost 10 minutes is absurd…
From time to time it even crashes. So, @urszula what’s up with that?
Well, I should be able to download all of them, if I like
Once it loads (and if I don’t force stop the app) it works just fine.
So there must be some explanation and hopefully something that can be done.
@urszula anything to share in the last two weeks that have gone by? I still am experiencing this problem.
A semi-workaround is the keep the Maps app open all the time, but it crashes every now and then…
@urszula I had to delete all the maps that I downloaded, because the App was rendered useless. Another two weeks have gone by and still nothing to share, I guess.
@astratev That’s the problem. Those apps take up space & the more regions you have downloaded the slower it will be. Our team said that Mudita Kompakt was not meant to have a whole continent of apps downloaded all at once. It’s by design because it’s not very minimalist.
I am sorry, but I feel like you just make up excuses. I don’t believe it’s “by design”, I believe it’s just because your phone’s hardware & software can’t handle it.
You didn’t even know about this problem before I reported it and almost a month after that you just ignored this topic.
How can something be “by design” when you discover the problem and reproduce it after it was reported.
I am sorry, but buying this half-phone experiment was a mistake.
I believe it should be fairly performing as long as that whole continent is not involved in routing calculation (e.g. a trip from Portugal to Moldova). @urszula
Navigation is not involved. There is no route to be calculated. The App just takes 10+ minutes to load up the map and my current location. The phone or it’s OS can’t just handle it. And I am annoyed being fed this “ethos” and “by design” nonsense.
