kRadar — Community App Review
Version: 1.0

A single-screen precipitation radar for the Mudita Kompakt e-ink phone (MuditaOS-K, AOSP, no Google Services). It overlays Rain Viewer European radar imagery on a static vector map (country borders + cities), centered on your current GPS position, with a ~2 hour animated history and +/- zoom.

The app is open source under GNU GPL 3 hosted on github: GitHub - ok1cdj/kRadar: Precipitation radar for the Mudita Kompakt e-ink phone (RainViewer + vector map, GPS, no Google Services) · GitHub

Review for version 1.1

Very cool app and concept. I live in the USA, west coast. I have the weather overlay but not country or state overlay so I don’t know what I’m looking at. I would definitely use this app if made to work for the USA

Thanks for the review — you’re right, v1.1 only had European borders/cities baked in, so outside Europe the radar had nothing to anchor to.

Fixed in v1.2: the map now covers the whole world (country borders + ~7,300 cities), including the US West Coast — Seattle, Portland, SF, Oakland, LA, San Diego all show up by default. Note it’s country borders only for now, no state lines yet.

Grab v1.2 here and let me know how it looks.

If you’d like to support the project, there’s a Buy Me a Coffee link in the About screen — no pressure, just appreciated. Thanks again for the feedback!

This is such a great app, it really helps complement the weather app already on the phone! Thank you!

I do wish there was a way to see the future. Maybe I just don’t understand the system but just wanted to give some input.

Other than that, it is perfect!

Thanks for the feedback! Added in version 1.3. Step or play forward past “now” and you’ll see up to 30 min ahead (if data are available, not always). Those frames are marked with a small ▲ next to the time so it’s obvious it’s a forecast, not current rain.
