Everyone,
This is my last stop in testing the new Kompakt to ensure I can use it daily.
Today, I spent several hours trying to connect Kompakt to the Android Auto system in my Chevy Bolt EV car. I tried many ways and explored numerous online forums, but to no avail. While the Bluetooth on Kompakt pairs up with the car, I can’t use the phone. I also attempted to connect the phone to the vehicle using a USB-C cable, but it’s still not working. Note that in the past and currently, I’ve been able to connect other iPhones and Android devices with no issue.
Forgive me for sending another message about the phone’s compatibility; I’m trying to give Kompakt a chance, as I believe in and support Mudita’s philosophy and efforts. Since I commute daily for work and rely too much on having a functioning phone while driving for maps, taking calls, streaming radio, and podcasts, etc., I worry that I may be unable to use the phone, so I’d appreciate any helpful tips.
Thank you!

If I’m not mistaken Android Auto uses Google Play Services. The Kompakt is a degoogled phone and does not offer google services. This means that this phone does not allow Google to gather your data, meaning your data is yours only and is not used to further Google’s interests. This has been a primary feature of this phone since its inception and for many is what drew them to this phone.
However it is possible to install an open source variant of Google Services titled MicroG, however this requires root access and means you won’t have access to updates. Mudita have stated they MIGHT allow MicroG to be installed natively but no decision on that has been reached.
Thus, if you want to use Android Auto it is going to be a no, however if you are willing to endure the friction that comes with not using Google there are alternatives to allow you to navigate your car.

I keep an old smart phone without a SIM card on airplane mode (pixel 4a) in my car just for android auto. I use the mudita to hotspot to it.

Thanks so much for your quick reply and clarification. I didn’t know this was the case.
Are you suggesting that if I installed MicroG, I could connect Kontakt to Android Auto? Has anyone been able to do it?

Good idea, a simple secondary device would probably be easiest.

I am suggesting that, but I’m not aware of members gaining root access to use Android Auto. Besides, it comes with serious drawbacks and apparently it voids Mudita’s warranty, though this is murky in a legal sense.

@nagymusic Our team has told me that we currently do not support Android Auto. However, you can connect Kompakt via Bluetooth for hands-free calling & music- The sound will be transmitted via Bluetooth (car speakers) after pairing with the car.
