Kompakt push notifications

Hi all! Patiently waiting here to give Kompakt a try at last

A question to those who have more insights already: are push notifications working alright? I suppose the Kompakt OS doesn’t come with Google Play Services, which are normally required to receive push notifications for most apps. So I’d guess for example Signal doesn’t work normally on Kompakt?

@miauzgenau & @anoniononioning
Are you asking about third-party apps or more about calendar events which you would have saved in the phone?
When it comes to third-party apps, since they are not optimized for Mudita Kompakt, it may not work like it’s supposed to, because, as we’ve said previously: third-party apps may not feel & work like they normally would on a traditional smartphone because they are not optimized for Mudita Kompakt. However, I will ask our team if this has been tested and get back to you guys.

Thank you, since I think you are using WhatsApp on the Kompakt, do you get push notifications even when in Standby?

Yep meant third-party apps like signal and whatsapp. This is easy to check in practice as @miauzgenau pointed out, but I’d be curious to hear about the Google Play Services thing, as it’s very relevant in terms of privacy. Thanks for checking with the team!

@miauzgenau Yes, I’ve got Whatsapp on Kompakt & I don’t have push notifications. When I do get a message, there is a sound notification that I received a message, but nothing shows up on the screen.

Our team told me that Mudita Kopakt does not have a notifications tray. It’s intentional. It’s to minimize distractions & not be bombarded with constant notifications.
As of now, Mudita Kompakt has have full-size full-screen notifications for calendar events and alarm.

@anoniononioning Mudita Kompakt is not optimized for third-party apps. That’s why we’ve said from the beginning that although you can sideload apps, they may not have the look & feel that you are used to.

Thanks @urszula! Mudita’s approach to notifications sounds wonderful and well thought-out, gotta appreciate it. My intention isn’t to make Kompakt a smartphone, but I’m just figuring out my options. And yeah I totally get that third-party apps aren’t officially supported

Yeah I totally agree I don’t want to constantly have to react to my phone like one of Pavlovs dogs, notifications need to me on our own terms

Hello, I’m very interested in Kompakt, but I need a notification icon in the lock screen if there is a lost call or sms (like in Hisense a5 or in Lightphone 2). Let me know if there is such an option. Thank you very much. Eduardo

@evadi Welcome to the Mudita Forum! We’re glad you’re here!

We’ve intentionally limited notifications on Mudita Kompakt to align with its vision of simplicity and mindful tech use.

The only notifications you’ll receive are for:

  • Alarms
  • Calendar events
  • Incoming calls

This way, you stay focused on what truly matters without unnecessary distractions.

However, if you do miss a call or text- it will look like this:
