I am traveling and learned the NA version does not. I was a bit bummed to switch my SIM card back to an iPhone, although I have been getting around fine without a phone since I am always with someone that has a phone. Anyhow, curious if the global version would work.
@catan Thanks for this feedback. Where are you exactly? I want to check with the team if they know anything about this.
Hong Kong!
Mobile networks and carriers in Hong Kong use 2 GSM bands, 3 UMTS bands, 4 LTE bands, and 3 5G NR bands.
I know you’re most likely interested in 4G LTE.
and it looks like Kompakt does have compatible bands in the NA version:
Are you using your US-based SIM card? OR did you buy a local sim card?
Thanks for checking! I’ll have to try again next time. I used my US SIM card. On the iPhone it connects automatically on LTE.
I am in Japan now and so far the Kompakt is not connecting while the iPhone does. Also on my US SIM card. Is there something in the Settings to change?
@catan I had this issue with My Mudita Kompakt in Australia. What I figured out is that I needed to do a MANUAL network selection for my POLISH sim card to connect to the network. I tried each network separately until it worked & I was roaming.
I have checked the settings in the Kompakt multiple times to see if other networks show up, but I did not see any. At the end I had to pop my SIM back into my iPhone 8 to get roaming access to email and WhatsApp to deal with some urgent travel issues (last minute flight cancellation and all that comes with that). As much as I dislike my mainstream smartphone, it sure came in handy in these trying times.
