I’m 8 days into using my Mudita Kompakt and really enjoying it. However…I found out I’ve been missing some group text messages where some users are sending RCS messages. I opted out of RCS on my Android device before moving my SIM card over and have had some group texts with no issues, but I’m worried about the long-term viability of the phone if I am not able to reliably receive text messages. Does anyone have any tips to fix this issue?
Group messages are going to be included in an update that’s coming up this Fall, it should solve this issues. As for RCS, Mudita Kompakt, does not support these type of messages as of now, but our team is aware of this & they are exploring the topic. However, no decisions have been made.
Please make RCS part of the update, that would improve the Kompakt significantly while still staying true to the ethos of the device
Thank you for that update. I understand that group texting is part of the planned update, but I need to know if that will mean I can reliably receive RCS messages. I don’t need to or care to send them, but I do need to know that I will receive messages from others.
RCS requires Google Play Services at the moment. Mudita does not have Google Play Services and as such is incompatible with RCS. I highly recommend you turn off RCS and deregister from it so that your friend’s phones can learn that you don’t have this service anymore. It takes about 1-2 weeks for the deregistration to take effect. Just FYI.
I deregistered about 4 weeks ago and am still experiencing the same issue! Any other tips?
The default SMS app sometimes has issues with Group texts, so try Quik
Some users have reported it has helped them show the hidden texts
I’ve been using another app (I can’t remember which right now…maybe Fossify?). It does help with group messages but not with RCS issues. I’ll see if Quik is any different!
@max.c.diener Yes Fossify Messages is generally pretty good, but I remember also users reporting that Quik worked better in the Kompakt when I first suggested it in May.
I hope it solves the issue
This is a pretty big problem for us. When the text is a group of 3, it comes through (that I know of) but my daughters friend texted a group of 7 to my phone and I got a notification but the texts did not come through. We literally just ordered her a Kompakt and it will be here Wednesday but without group texts, she can’t use it. I thought we were okay since the groups of 3 were coming through okay on mine. I don’t know if we should try to send it back (ordered through dumb wireless) or keep it and pray the update in fall fixes this. She is pretty upset because it is her first large purchase and now she can’t use it.
Edit to add: I just read something about RCS and maybe that is why she isn’t getting it, so if that is the case it will not be fixed in the update, correct?
@rookang777 Unfortunately, RCS is pretty complicated & it will not be in the September update.
I understand not including RCS as an option for sending, but will we be able to reliably receive RCS messages, or to opt out of receiving them so that we no longer miss text messages?
@max.c.diener I will ask the team to clarify, but as far as I understand it, Mudita Kompakt does not support RCS at the moment.
@max.c.diener I had the same issue - turned off RCS and deregistered iMessage weeks before switching and still no luck. What’s more - with RCS turned off on my iPhone I was completely missing messages on the iPhone, too! So iPhone doesn’t even successfully force SMS like it says it’s supposed to if you turn off RCS. My solution - OpenBubbles. If you’re willing to keep an iPhone at home and set up OB on the Kompakt with mac hardware info, you’ll receive all messages on the Kompakt including RCS
Do you plan to integrate it in the future?
@rookang777 Our team is discussing all options, however, no decision has been made as of now.
How does one go about seeing if RCS is enabled/registered? And if it were, how would I “deregister”?

I have owned the Mudita Kompakt for almost a month. While the phone is almost perfect for me in every way, I cannot use this phone at all as a daily device. Here’s why: my work depends on communicating through group texts. No RCS means I cannot be entered into existing group chats that are created by the people who oversee me. Everyone in our office (14 people) have iPhones… there are silly meme/GIFs sent. including the occasional short video of people singing happy birthday, etc. Sometimes, an audio text. These are all essential elements for our workplace, and I cannot demand that all other users dumb down their phone to basic SMS. For work, I need to be on group texts. I am so so disappointed, because otherwise this phone is absolutely amazing. Mudita, you had won me over until I realized that I can’t communicate with my colleagues. This phone is just not for anyone who needs group texts in the office. It just doesn’t work (and my co-workers are frustrated).

Here is one of the key paragraphs from that guide:
Because Google has consolidated the RCS messaging infrastructure, it creates a problem for dumbphone support. The only way to use the Google Jibe RCS server is with Google’s proprietary Google Messages app. And the only way for dumbphone companies to add the app to their devices is via an agreement with Google to support Google Play Services. [emphasis added] This is often a non-starter either due to the stripped down version of Android many dumbphones run and/or it goes completely against the mission of many dumbphone companies to support fewer apps to eliminate distractions.
For privacy reasons, Mudita specifically does not use any Google software in its AOSP-based MuditaOS K. Similarly, and for the same sake of privacy, the maker of iodéOS – also AOSP-based – does not use any Google software.
