Is ther Option to undo the last update from OS?

Hello everyone,

is there any way to undo the latest update?

I know this might sound a bit unusual, but I specifically bought the Mudita phone because I really liked its slower interaction and the original keyboard experience. It helped me to slow down and be more mindful.

Since the update and the new keyboard, everything feels much smoother and faster. While I understand that this may be considered an improvement in terms of user experience, it unfortunately takes away what made the phone special for me.

Is there any option to restore the previous keyboard layout or revert to the earlier version?

Wow, it is truly impossible to satisfy everyone. You have a couple options here - you could side-load a keyboard app like FUTO keyboard which may be slower than the current official keyboard (I wouldn’t know I haven’t received the update yet). You could sideload KompaktX and use its integrated tooling to change the e-ink refresh mode to something slower than the current default. Alternatively, if you really really want to revert to 1.4.0 you could use the MediaTek Flash Tool to flash an earlier version of the OS and firmware. You will need a 1.4.0 system image and some command line tools, and you run the risk of bricking your device if you do it wrong.

Dear @qonan Here’s an option (I don’t know if there is a revert or undo update)

>Settings / System / Factory reset

  • read the Warning, tap Factory reset

Stop applying updates at the version you desire.

Thank you for your message and help!! Jeah i know its not easy for mudita to realy get satisfy everyone… i know that a lot ot of people request a faster reaction from the keyboard but i realy miss the slow version. One question to the side-load apps. is there any guidance how i can side load those apps and where i get those apps? Im not so firm with flashing mobilephones so i defintily dont risk this way :slight_smile:

Thank yo smuch. I also thought about this option but in my thinking i thought they will immiditalty install the current OS version? So if i understood you right, it will go back du the “first” version and i cann install one Version after the next and stop at those version who i liked?

You basically have 2 options:

  1. Download .apk files on your computer and install them on the Kompakt using Mudita Center
  2. Install a store on your Kompakt and get the apps from there

There are a few recommended stores: https://f-droid.org/ , https://auroraoss.com/ and https://apkpure.com/

If you need particular apps, let me know which ones, and I can send you direct download links.

A lot of good, safe and free apps can also be found on Github.

In OS 1.5.0 before you go through the reset I suggest you try adjusting settings

Settings / System / Language and Keyboard / Keyboard Settings / Preferences (turn off or on features)

Does the image file get saved on the device when performing an ota update? If so could it be captured and used to roll back the os?

I contact the Support. Unfortunately this is the answer:

”At the moment, it is unfortunately not possible to downgrade the device software from MuditaOS 1.5 back to version 1.4. Performing a factory reset will not reinstall an older version of the system-the phone will remain on the currently installed version.

Additionally, after resetting the device, the update process would still ultimately install the latest available software version.”

Not sure what this Settings will change? i only can change my prefered layout but i dont have any option to go back to the old layout :-/

Those anyone have maybe an idea which keyboard sideload app has maybe a similar layout from the keyboard from OS 1.4? Is there maybe one?

Hi ! A factory reset does not revert the firmware version. Only deletes all user data !

You could try changing the keyboard layout to one you are not accustomed to (like DVORAK !) and disable all the convenience options (auto-correction, auto-uppercase / new sentence, suggestions).

In my case, having a better built-in keyboard helps me focus more on the core components actually… I actually made a factory reset after the update and decided not to add any third party app this time.
