Is NFC a Present or Future Feature?

Hi folks/ @urszula,

I can NFC mentioned in discussions, but what I’d like to know is whether it’s already available/supported by the OS or whether it is a feature that is still in development. Can anyone clarify this please?

Many thanks.

I asked the same with not much detail. Would love to know what is planned for NFC.

I can confirm that NFC works. I sideloaded the Yubico Authenticator and was able to receive the TOTP codes on the yubikey with a simple tap to the back of the Kompakt.

Thanks, David. Does Mudita OS K support it natively? Can you, for instance, make payments with it?

This has been one of the issues ive had when looking for an eink type phone, most have no MFA app and no way to load one, or they do and are way to not minimal.

good to know that the Yubikey works here with NFC. does the app work well enough on the eink?

@petemeister NFC is present in the hardware, but it’s not used by any native Mudita Kompakt apps. Third-party apps can FORCE the NFC to be turned on, however, we cannot guarantee how it will work with those third-party apps because, like we always said, those apps my not function the same way that they would on a traditional smartphone.

@urszula, please confirm if Mudita plans to make use of the NFC feature and how. If it doesn’t plan to use it, I would begin scratching my chin wondering why they included it if the OS doesn’t support it natively. Thanks.

@david-ger We are so glad to hear that!

What are you glad to see? I have no idea what that photo is showing. It’s like doing a cryptic crossword without any clues in a different language. “Search Accounts” is the translation.

Does that mean that photo is showing a list of payment options configured to work on the MK’s NFC?

The photo is showing that the sideloaded Yubico Authenticator App works as expected. The numbers are 2-factor authentication tokens for various online accounts. I censored the names of the accounts with gray boxes for privacy.

oh very nice. it looks like it renders really well on the eink as well.

MFA has been one of my ‘need’ things on a minimal phone that most just dont support, or aren’t minimal to begin with. so this is a nice middle ground, maybe the only app ill side load

OK, so it refers to 2FA. Thanks for clarifying.

Is that related to NFC?

the yubikey uses NFC or USB to connect to the phone to allow you to retrieve 2FA codes

@petemeister The Mudita Kompakt user was showing that they were able to merge/upload all their accounts & Yubico Authenticator works flawlessly  Obviously the accounts are blocked off because they are being posted publicly.
