Is everything old, 'new again'?

Earlier this year, I wrote an article for the Mudita Blog exploring why all of a sudden I was seeing so many ‘old school’ digital cameras. They were mostly in the hands of GEN Z individuals, but I also noticed that older people were also embracing this retro technology
You can check it out here:

This summer, the trend seemed to intensify. It seems like everyone was jumping on the bandwagon & swapping out their smartphone cameras for a ‘somewhat vintage’ compact digital camera (you know the ones that were all the rage 15 years go). The subject was even covered on Good Morning America this week

What do you guys make of this? Do you believe the resurgence of these cameras is a passing trend or indicative of a larger shift in how we value and use technology?

I do not have an answer to your “Do you believe…?” question, but here is my reply.

Bright Sunlight

I got a Lumix digital camera because it has a viewfinder, which – unlike every cellphone camera that I ever had – lets me frame in bright sunlight what I am photographing.

Kompakt → Bright-Sunlight Camera?

I look forward to seeing whether the Mudita Kompakt can be a bright-sunlight camera!

I think it’s a cycle. Things that were once cool come back into style every 20-30 years.

I wouldn’t be so sure.

According to Billboard, an entertainment industry media site, in 2022 sales of cassette tapes increased 28% to 440,000 units, as compared to 343,000 units sold in 2021 . While this is small in comparison to overall music and album sales, it is strong growth for a category that has been growing for several years now.
