If you could recommend THREE apps to NEW Mudita Kompakt users- which ones would you recommend

One of the questions we see again and again from new Mudita Kompakt users is:

“What apps actually work well on Kompakt?”

So, let’s turn this community discussion into expanding our new FORUM section:

If you could recommend THREE third-party apps to someone who just got their Mudita Kompakt, which ones would you choose and why?

They can be:

  • productivity tools
  • messaging apps
  • navigation apps
  • music players
  • weather apps
  • minimalist utilities
  • apps designed specifically for E Ink devices
  • or anything else you genuinely think works especially well on Kompakt

Bonus points if you include:

  • the app version
  • what works well
  • any limitations or quirks
  • screenshots from your Kompakt (we love those)

If you’d like to share your favorite apps and recommendations, we’d love for you to post them there so we can build a useful, organized library of community-tested apps for everyone to explore.

The goal is to create one dedicated place where new and existing users can easily discover which apps work well on Kompakt and learn from real community experiences.

Looking forward to seeing your recommendations

As a new user I’d like to know why any 3rd party app is necessary and/or what makes it better than the app that comes preinstalled/standard on the Kompakt phone?

This is a very good question and the answer is very simple. Not everyone see digital minimalism in the same way & the truth is, many minimalist phones remove so many features that they become impractical for everyday use.
Mudita Kompakt stands apart from many minimalist phones because it takes a more balanced and adaptable approach to digital minimalism.

Mudita Kompakt tries to avoid that trap by offering a clean, distraction-free experience out of the box, while still allowing optional sideloading for users who need certain apps for communication, navigation, or work.

As a result, instead of forcing users into an extreme “all or nothing” lifestyle, it’s designed to reduce distractions while still allowing people to stay connected in ways that fit their real lives.

We discuss this in one of the articles on our blog:

I believe the Mudita phone concept was well thought out. Some people might want to make the device do things the designers never intended for it to do and it would be good to draw the line and say not possible.

Hopefully functionality issues are addressed in future MuditaOS updates. Please keep in mind that there are out of the box users.

It’s a good question. I’m not a software developer by any means, but I really appreciate Mudita’s design approach, where developers can create and test out apps designed specifically for the Mudita Kompakt. Having many people working through bugs and tests allows for better apps and ultimately a better product.

Yes  We totally understand.

  1. Katapult / inkOS (depending on user preference)
  2. KillApps 1.57.9 (as long as batch killing apps is not natively supported)
  3. A spam blocker that works (haven’t found any so far)

Optional:

4. Open Camera 1.55
5. Fennec 150.0.1 (browser)

So last time I counted those were almost 3 :stuck_out_tongue: (plus/minus relatively very very quite precisely)

There are a lot more apps I could recommend, if only I knew any  Besides I already listed 3 :stuck_out_tongue:

@YYZ You can review @gezimos’s Katapult launcher on Community Apps - Mudita Forum. A Community of Minimalist Technology Enthusiasts
He submitted it there today. You can also review InkOS & the KillApps if they work well for you.

@urszula I have some apps I would like to review, but a mandatory apk link is a big deterrent for me personally to participate in the new app review forum. I’m not sure if others are experiencing that. I have downloaded most of my apps from aurora store. So, the only apk files I’ve ever used are aurora store, katapult, and calm directory. Is the intention that apps for review are just to be posted by developers? Or should we be posting and reviewing more mainstream apps as well? I don’t feel confident looking up apk links and risking finding something predatory and then accidentally posting it for others to use.
