I cant write now LOL ! Let me introduce myself

A Lifelong Tech Wanderer’s Journey to Mudita KompaktHey everyone! I’ve been lurking on Reddit since I got my hands on the Mudita Kompakt a few months back—and wow, do I love this thing. My middle son (the 27-year-old tech enthusiast) is the one who introduced me to Mudita’s world.

As a brand-new member here, I hit a wall: couldn’t post or comment right away. What are the official rules for jumping in?

I’m closing in on 60, and my tech roots run deep. I cut my teeth on DOS, a Commodore VIC-20, and I was the first in my town to snag a Mac. Heck, I even ran my own BBS (Bulletin Board System) back in the modem days.

Spent most of my career in IT. At home, I moved from from Windows to Mac, back to Windows, and finally landing on Linux—where I’ve happily camped out for way too long to count

.Along the way, I’ve tinkered with it all: pagers, Palm Pilots, Pocket PCs, the quirky Apple Newton, BlackBerries, and every gadget that’s come down the pike since. More recently, I dove into GrapheneOS and other AOSP-based ROMs for that privacy kick.

That’s why Mudita’s philosophy hits home so hard—their products, design, and whole ethos scream intentionality in a world of endless notifications. The Kompakt? It’s pure magic. It does exactly what it’s built for: connects without consuming you.

Quick mea culpa: I’ve sideloaded a couple of work-essential apps (and yeah, Grok AI for those late-night curiosities and work during the day). I refuse to juggle two phones, so forgive the tweaks—it’s still 99% pure Mudita magic.

Excited to swap stories with you all!

With three sons shaping my views on this hyper-connected chaos—my 25-year-old rocking a flip phone, the 27-year-old on his own Kompakt, and the 32-year-old fully plugged in—I’ve lived through society’s full sprint from dial-up dial tone to dopamine doomscroll.

Just ditched my Pixel 6 and Pixel Watch 3 last week. Feels like shedding old skin. What’s your origin story with minimalism in tech?

Let’s chat!

Hey, that is all super cool. Much respect for you keeping up with tech over the decades. I love to see it. I wasn’t around for the BBS era but it’s something I’ve read a lot about because I find it fascinating. There’s an archived show called “Bits and Bytes” on YouTube, I think it’s from the early 80s. Tons of cool stuff was happening around then leading up to the conception of the Internet. I was around for the early Internet as a young child, and it’s funny how incredible and amazing it was at that time but now we all just want to get the hell away from it since it’s turned into a big perpetual slop machine corrupted by capitalism and corporate greed. Hopefully something new comes around over the coming years. I think a lot of people are interested in creating some kind of new global network and keeping it free and decentralized. I would love to see it anyway.

Nostr, Retroshare, mastodon so many are trying…
Even X is trying hard but people in control are hard on Elon and “make up so many stories” to slow him down… We’ll see…

Don’t want this thread to become political, we’re here to speak about Mudita products and as for me, KOMPAKT (for now… Considering other Mudita products)
Hope this post survive, else it will be deleted LOL

We absolutely love hearing from lifelong tech enthusiasts who’ve seen every stage of digital evolution, yet still choose to embrace mindful, intentional tech use.
Your journey perfectly captures what Mudita Kompakt is all about: using technology as a tool, not a tether. Welcome to the community! We’re thrilled to have you here, and we can’t wait to hear more about your experiences and insights!
