How to switch from a smartphone to Kompakt

As soon most of us are getting our hands on our Kompakts, I thought it’d be a good idea to help people, who are switching from a smartphone with ideas how to save their data from their current phone and prepare to transfer them to the Kompakt.

So if you have some great ideas, shoot! :cowboy_hat_face:

Starting idea: export your contacts to a .vcf file, for sure Kompakt should be able to handle that. Maybe it is also a good occasion to sort your contacts and only transfer the important ones. If you’re using android you can do it in a browser as well at contacts.google.com

Mudita Forum users have posted some suggestions for preparing for the switch:

  • Put your smartphone in black-&-white mode.
  • Set your smartphone to use a light (vs. dark) theme.
  • Make the functionality of the apps on your smartphone mirror no more than the functionality of the apps on the Kompakt.

I’m prepping by doing a happy dance at every opportunity, perhaps not very practical but oh so much fun! :blush:

Agreed about only transferring required contacts to the new device - perhaps take the opportunity to be honest about which ones are no longer required and let them go by deleting them.
Same goes for notes, photos etc.

I’m also going to treat it as an opportunity to purge contacts that are no longer relevant.
Purge and back up photos on my desktop.
I’m playing around with obsidian as an organization tool to plug notes into that are still relevant.
Clearing out the old.
