maybe its just me, but I tried multiple times on different qr-codes to read them with the camera app on the kompakt. What do I have to do to make this work? I was just curious what will happen, but nothing is kinda hard…
So the default camera doesn’t offer QR code detecting/scanning. So you need to use a QR code scanner app if you need them.
If the app that you’re using has a QR scanner inside (like Signal or whatsapp have for activating Desktop device) the scanner/camera UI will show and it will be able to scan.
Oh, that is unfortunate… I hoped for this feature being in the camera app as a standard… well can we please implement this in a future update?
maybe a small icon added to the app while open?
So the camera app is very barebones, it doesn’t even offer video recording. They should be able to do this in future updates.
However if you need the feature now it’s very simple to sideload a different camera app or just a dedicated QR scanner.
out of curiosity… what for? there’s no browser
there is web view so I wanted to try it out on a few things. But I don’t want to side load an qr-code-scanner only for this feature… seems… not really worth it. But this should really be implemented in the actual camera app.
@eden This might be the reason why it doesn’t work in the way you’d want it to.
I used the camera to scan the QR code to get WhatsApp on my Computer an it did work. But in my case- there was not website involved on Mudita Kompakt. I just scanned the QR code on the website through the WhatsApp application & voila It worked.
Indeed! My sideloaded Session messenger app has a QR scanner, and it works perfectly!
yes, when you scan in app, like for example connecting whatsapp or signal, it should just work, its the app doing the QR scanning from the camera view.
tobi wants the native camera app to scan qr codes to open websites i think…
@eden But if there is no browser, how can that work? What’s it going to open?
web view someone has written on this forum?
@tobi It was me. I wrote about this- BUT WebView is NOT A BROWSER & that could be the problem. It has to be triggered by an app & its behavior is dictated by a specific app.
Put simply, the Kompakt’s Camera app has no QR-code scanning feature built into it. In contrast, sideloaded apps such as Session and WhatsApp have built-in QR-code scanners, as do other camera apps, such as the one (from com.android.camera2) that comes with CalyxOS and camera apps that you will find on several Google Android cellphones.
Well that pushes me just a little more towards sideloading. thanks for the clarification on this topic
