Uninstalling sideloaded apps:
At the moment, Mudita Kompakt doesn’t include a built-in option to uninstall sideloaded apps directly on the device or via Mudita Center.
If you decide to explore third-party apps, it’s worth knowing that managing them (including removing them later) may require an additional step.
One option is to perform a factory reset, which will remove all sideloaded apps at once. However, please keep in mind that this will also erase user data stored on the device, so it should be treated as a last resort.
It is simple to do if you enable developer tools and USB debugging then use ADB on a connected computer:
Once connected, just enter the following commands…
adb shell pm list packages
adb uninstall <your.package.name>
This will immediately remove the package. Use with care - make sure that you uninstall the correct package.
NOTE: Removing the installers in Mudita Center on your computer does NOT uninstall the app. It only removes the installer.
On second thought, here are also the steps to enable ADB on the Kompakt (I am not including how to install the Android Developer Tools on your computer, since that differs by OS):
-
Go to the ‘About’ section of your phone settings.
-
Tap the ‘Build Number’ line several times until a Passcode screen appears and enter your phone’s passcode.
-
Go to the ‘System’ section of your phone settings.
-
Tap Developer Tools and enable USB debugging toggle (scroll down a little).
-
Plug your Kompakt into your computer (that has android developer tools installed).
-
Open your terminal/command-line application.
-
Command: ‘adb devices’ ; verify that your kompakt is recognized
Once you have done this, you can simply enter the two commands above.
NOTE: It is highly recommended to go back to the ‘System’ section of your phone settings and DISABLE (by toggling OFF) ‘Developer Tools’ when you are finished, so that reenabling them will require your passcode again.
I love how Mudita let’s us sideload apks! With the future update MuditaOS K2.0 it will help manage Android apps by closing apps running in the background or uninstall those we no longer need. I am happy with the 4 apks I have: Whatsapp, EinkBro, Kindle and Audible. Mudita Kompakt is the perfect little device to use as a main phone. Thank you, Mudita.
So far for me the easiest solution is InkOs or maybe Katapult can also do it. But in InkOs you can directly do it in the menu, long press on the app and uninstall. I guess it’s the same in Katapult launcher.
I tried Katapult with no other changes to a stock app selection and default settings and my battery life cut in half (with no screen saver or lock screen widgets). I found other reports of the same thing online, where it was recommended to completely disable the stock launcher so that competing background events didn’t cause loops that drained battery. I just got rid of Katapult and went back to all stock and my battery life returned to normal.
Right now, that’s not possible, but it will be possible directly on Mudita Kompakt when we release MuditaOS K 2.0 in November.
Right now, you can use a 3rd-party app, to remove apps. Personally, I use Batch Uninstaller.
That’s right Urszula and I would like to appreciate you for the video you posted a month ago. I have been eyeing the Mudita Kompakt for a while now and when I watched your video it made me finally make my decision. Thank you, Urszula!
@mudita_yiguirro Did you get your Mudita Kompakt?
