I wanted to share an interesting BBC article I just read about a 14-year-old named Violet who drastically reduced her smartphone use after participating in a school screen time challenge, cutting her daily use from 10 hours to less than four.
This change led to significant positive outcomes: she formed closer relationships with family members, developed new interests like baking and reading, and improved her mental health.
I think we can all agree that reducing smartphone use can lead to improved mental health, closer family relationships, and the development of new interests, but I’m curious about your journey.
What are some effective strategies you’ve used or heard of to reduce screen time?
Do you think having a mindful tech device helps? Or can you do it with a traditional smartphone?
Not surprising at all. People need to wake up honestly. I know I had to look at myself and what I was doing. I went from 10 plus hours online to under and hour a day. I gave up my smartphone (actually got a cheap light phone 2 back after 3 weeks with the Cat S22 flip my old smart phone habits came back!) and life has been 100 times better ever since. I am going on vacation to Aruba in 2 weeks and I am not even bringing a phone with me. The disconnected life is the BETTER LIFE
I have seen people use laptops in cafes and public transport. So, it’s not inconceivable. As regards walking on the street, even using a feature phone and listening to music are not safe.
