How Companies Block the Web to Push App Downloads. Let’s Talk About It

I came across a very interesting article on TechReviewer:

I’ve experienced this before & I thought I was going crazy- but apparently there’s something to this.

The author calls this tactic the “App Trap” and points out how it erodes accessibility & actually drives digital minimalism.

At Mudita, we often talk about how design choices can either support or undermine mindful technology use. This article really highlights how modern UX decisions often push users toward more control and tracking, rather than simplicity and respect.

Check it out & let me know what you think.
Have you noticed websites blocking or hiding content unless you download their app?

Not sure about websites but companies def try to push you on the app in the US. You can only get their ‘savings’ or ‘deals’ if you have the app or are a member of the ‘club.’ Very frustrating but I’m done giving away my information for the sake of added convenience. And the savings are often illusory - you can (often) save more by looking around.

I usually just show them my old Nokia and ask them to install their app on it. Then the issue is settled. :stuck_out_tongue:
