Help with Signal messenger

i have been using Signal on my Kompakt since i have had it, but in that time i have always had issues with the camera.

I have never been able to tkae a pictrure within the signal app: when clicking on the camera icon within a message thread, the camera view opens, but is blank. i can only select the icon in the bottom right to select pre-existing images in my gallery. Now, since the last few Signal versions, clicking on that gallery link crashes Signal.

I instal signal by downloading the APK directly from their website, then side-load using ADB.

Does anyone else have these two camera glitches? and if not, what method are you using to side-load/instal Signal?

And to add - i have granted Signal all possible access to the camera etc. I did have it working once in one update, but then it reverted to showing a blank camera shutter and crashing the gallery view, out of knowwhere!

Now that you mention it, these issues also affect Molly FOSS (the alternative fork of the Signal app). I’ve just confirmed the exact same issues. Bizarrely, I seem to have had a blind spot and never even noticed the camera and microphone icons at the bottom of the messenger interface. Perhaps I’m just used to a certain habit e.g. step 1: take a photo (using Open Camera); step 2: press the plus icon on Molly/Signal and insert the image into the chat.

For me it’s no particular hardship to do it this way, but well spotted.

I also have signal & yes, sometimes there is a lag in the camera, but, for me it usually works if I just close the app & then open it again.

where do you source your app/apk from?

mine does not have a delay, i get no live image at all. when the delay goes, i can then click the gallery shortcut in the bottom right corner

I have the Aurora store installed. At first, I did get the app directly from the signal website, but when updates come out, it’s just a hassle to delete the old version & get the new one from the website. That’s why I opted for the Aurora store.
