I have wanted one for ages, but not bitten the bullet.
This review kind of sums up how I inevitably feel itāll end up and itās around Ā£700 in the UK, which is hyper expensive for 2024 tech.
I keep checking to see if thereās a DC-2 coming with better weight and screen density.
The promise of it is awesome though.
Makes sense! I heard it can be good for certain usage though and I like how they are privacy conscious. I believe it is somewhat degoogled as well? I am in Canada, so I understand the price point!
I hope the next Mudita Phone has color E ink.
I switched to a hibreak for similar reasons. Are you saying you have Mudita system apps loaded onto your hibreak? Is there somewhere I can download those? Iāve downloaded some of the APKs from the community page but getting mudita custom apps would be awesome.
Mudita does not open source their system apps unfortunately, but you can still sideload community developed apps onto the hibreak!

Just checked the forums - June 24 survey with a ~May 25 Kompakt release - so are we about a year out from the successor? Hmmā¦.I love my Kompakts. I guess we shall see. Hopefully The Kompakt remains regardless of next gen

I feel like the screen of the Kompakt is already perfect for the minimalist, intended use. I really dislike colour e-ink, itās not eye-friendly as the bw.
Iād like a better build quality, in metal, and better water/dust resistance.
Better camera as well would be great.
I like the size and look of the Kompakt. I prefer phones that can be used by 1 hand only and fits in a womanās pocked. That said I miss a physical keyboard. Before the Kompakt I used the CAT S22., and I loved the option to tap on the physical keyboard. The main reason for my shift was the fact that my phone stopped receiving calls and I wanted a minimalist phone by a EU company.

Mudita Kompakt is great - I use it for everyday use (calls, sms, mobile payment for car park and public transport with dedicated apps, podcasts).
I use standard smartphone for banking - mainly at home (markets, stocks, shopping, whatsapp - as it is faster and better than on e-ink). So I take standard smartphone also for holidays (booking apps, transport, web browser in emergency) - Mudita cannot be the only phone.
If it is the only phone - the screen and keybord need to be faster (is it possible with e-ink?), bigger and provide banking apps and google services (e.g. easy access to gmail app if needed on holidays). It should be easy to configure it so it doesnt distract you. Preferably only black and white colours.
In the opposite to some statements - in my opinion you need degoogled mudita for everyday use, and you need all that google and banking services especially on holidays, especially abroad:)
I agree, slimmer and frameless to save space and with the same current material.
Iāve been really loving my Kompakt for reading recently, and Iāve found myself grabbing it over a physical book-I just prefer the way it feels in my hand. For the next mudita phone, Iād love to see enhancements to the reading experience such as a brighter/warmer e ink display & a warmer backlight hue. Iām not an expert in e ink technology, so Iām not sure if this is feasible.
Also, I donāt mind using a sideloaded reader in order to have more control over the font characteristics, but it would be nice if Mudita expanded on the native reader and allowed for more customization.

We aim to have one device globally. With 5G, it is much easier to achieve this.
But a bit more nuanced answer regarding Kompakt itself. Both versions, Global and NA, should work sufficiently well around the world. The main difference is that the NA version supports some additional bands that can be important in certain scenarios in the US.
The rest of the bands were selected in a way that both versions should also work globally, including during international travel.
I do not remember all the technical details, but I remember discussing this with our engineers. From what I remember, the differences may appear only in some very specific scenarios and should not be deal breakers.
Actually, what I also remember from these technical discussions is that many large companies use slightly different device configurations for different markets, but quite often this is not even clearly advertised.
