I’m completely new in the mudita world and think about getting a Mudita Kompakt. Does it make sense to wait until OS 2.0 is released? I mean, are there any hardware changes as well or can I just get one now and update it to the 2. version once it’s released?
Maybe @urszula can give you a definitive answer. She is helping me to get a GLOBAL Kompakt to replace a NAM Kompakt that got shipped to me, and I expect that GLOBAL Kompakt to be “update-able” to 2.0!
No hardware changes are expected this year or next year. Hardware changes are quite challenging, for example in terms of certifications. Mudita Kompakt has a set of certifications for the markets where it is sold (other E Ink phones - not necessarily), and nearly every hardware change would bring the necessity of re-certification, a process which is quite costly.
So our focus is to improve the device software-wise, and the 2.0 update, scheduled for this November, is a sign of it. And of course, it is not the “end game”. The current internal roadmap has actually started growing towards further numbers beyond 2.0, and some versions, like 2.1, are already quite well defined.
Reading users’ requests, ideas, and comments, I can easily imagine changes and improvements waaayyy beyond 2.0, but I don’t wanna spoil the surprises
On the other hand, I can also imagine that one day we may, together with the community, come to the conclusion that the device is mature enough and doesn’t need any big software changes anymore. Kompakt is meant to be a simple device, and our goal is not to make it grow endlessly. But I think we are still quite far from that point;)
Thank you for your interest in Mudita & getting a Mudita Kompakt. Just from a sale standpoint, why not get the phone while it’s on sale & save some money on your purchase?
We’re currently running a back-to-school sale, so you can get the device at a great price.
