Grayscale pics on Kompakt too please

One of advertised Kompakt feats is that it takes photos in colour. Surely, that is not think grayscale e-ink decolorizes photos

But since grayscale, even just black and white, pictures carry certain nostalgia and impression factor, I vote that there is option in software to take grayscale, black and white pics too. Or all 3 for one photo, if needed.

Your suggestion is not a high priority for me. I will be happy with the Camera app capturing photos in color, as I prefer to use computer-based apps such as Pinta on Linux (or, when I used Windows, Paint . NET) to convert color photos to grayscale.

While conversion could be done easily on computer, I believe its nice feature that could differentiate it. Surely, its not more important then e,g, storage or storage expansion.

Given that @urszula wrote “minimalist camera” and not “camera” here, I assume that Mudita will stick with color-only output from the Camera app for now.

Bare in mind just that I think of post processing option in their gallery app, or some export option. Surely nicest would be to choose from camera app and have conversion after the shot.
We dont need or cant have 2 or 3 cameras on such phone

Just to clarify, when you take pictures with Mudita Kompakt the will appear greyscale/B&W on the phone. However, once you upload them to your computer, they will be in color.

That is crystal c;ear. Topic is. could we have some post processing so we can (by choice) have B&W, Grayscale and/.or colour photo as result?

I think you can do that on your computer @RasVoja. I don’t know what type of computer software/OS, but I use Windows & there is an Image Editor built right there, so I can change it in there.

No doubt I can convert images since DOS times.
But lets turn percieved disadventage of grayscale screen into a bit of magic - having grayscale photos too, as option.
Try same image in full colour and grayscale (or B&W) and see nice nostalgia factor. Its something that can be different!

I do understand this idea and would like to have such a feature, like as an option in the settings. It isn’t even that much work to implement, I believe.

On the other hand, I do use my smartphone in grayscale and as such also use the camera in grayscale - but it snaps colored photos, just as the Mudita Kompakt would do.
I perceive this as satisfying. I do not long for the black and white photography because the photos are black and white for me on my phone, but when I share them with someone or sit down to watch the photos on a bigger screen, I can enjoy them in color.
The point is, while using only grayscale photography is a pretty radical technique for digital minimalism that I also repeatedly considered, sticking to colored photos does not add any discomfort for me. So I keep using color photos on a device with grayscale screen.

Now there are practical considerations of this and they are pretty serious.
With the grayscale screen, it is very hard to judge whether the photo will turn out good in color, the photographer has to fully rely on the automatic camera settings. I learned to trust the settings of my iPhone, the camera software is optimized pretty well. Now I cannot expect Mudita to compete with Apple in fine tuning their camera, so I have to expect it won’t be that amazing. A grayscale setting option would certainly add some value to the Mudita camera, but I also assume the Mudita team has more pressing development goals. Maybe they can add this function at a later time after the release, I would certainly welcome it.

Thanks for supporting (the post processing choice) idea
