GPS functionnality improvement

Good morning,

I am using my Mudita GPS for outdoor activities, such as cycling. Since there is currently no suitable mount available for this device, I usually keep it in my pocket while riding.

I noticed that when the screen automatically locks, the GPS loses its signal. Also, when It return to the general menu by mistake, I lose my current navigation session and all of the checkpoints I previously entered. As a result, I have to manually enter every checkpoint again, and the GPS has to recalculate the entire route from scratch. This is quite inconvenient, especially while cycling.

In my opinion, the GPS app should be able to continue running smoothly in the background, similar to the music app, even when the screen is locked. Being able to keep the voice navigation active is very useful with your phone in the pocket.

If this is something you could consider improving in a future update, I would really appreciate it. I believe this would make the GPS much more practical for outdoor activities.

Thank you for your time and for your work on improving the device.

Best regards,

Jordan Lhuile

@jordan.lhuile Just to make sure I’m understanding your situation correctly, you want to make sure that active navigation should persist in the background, both when the screen locks and when you leaves the Maps app (like when you take a call or write a text message). You’d like the current route, checkpoints, GPS tracking, and voice guidance to remain active until you explicitly ends the navigation session? Am I understanding your correctly?

Also, have you enabled A-GPS? Is your Mudita Kompakt running Mudita OS K 1.5.0? I just want to makes sure it’s not an outdated software issue while we troubleshoot this.

Exactly, this is correct, as Google Maps or Apple plans would do. I also enable A-GPS wherever I am going. I explained the situation to the team also via mail and here is a part of the answer I got :

“Current Behavior & Background Processing:

Screen Locking & Signal Loss: To optimize system resources and battery life, the GPS application currently pauses active location tracking when the screen locks or turns off.
Session Persistence: Exiting the GPS app to the main menu resets the current session, which requires re-entering checkpoints and recalculating the route upon reopening.”

So this is a normal feature apparently.

@jordan.lhuile Sorry it a bit to get this answer to you, but I was able to talk to our team about this & it turns out this is a bug which will be fixed in the 1.6.0 update. So, that’s something to look forward to
