Gong for text notifications

So this weekend I changed my text notification sound to the gong, previously it was the drum sound. I do have Activity Manager sideloaded via F-Droid to shut off text notifications. When I do go for a walk etc. or am watching TV and I have text notifications on, I found I guess a hack to be mindful and not simply reactionary like Pavlov’s dogs when I hear a text notification lol. When I hear the gongs it’s of course the same gong sound on the Harmony clock I use to meditate, which I have set to go off during my 15-minute meditation when my mind slips. What I do now when I get a text notification and hear the gong sound is I don’t reach to check my phone right away, I take 1 or 2 mindful breaths and then I pick up the phone. I really love doing this.

This weekend I also when I was out and about my community running errands I made it a point at times to leave my phone in the truck. I don’t need or want my phone on my person 24/7 whether its a smartphone or a minimalist phone like the Kompakt. I encourage everyone to try this once in a while even with your Kompakt, it truly gives you a sense of freedom. Loved my first weekend with the Kompakt.

Sunday night I shut the phone off put it in another room and went to bed with my Harmony. Previously I would listen to podcasts etc. but I am finding it’s disrupting my sleep so I have deleted my podcast app because to be honest I don’t really consistently listen to podcasts they are not that important to me. I got a fantastic night’s sleep, Harmony woke me up and I did 15 mins of meditation before starting my day. Got the Kompakt put it in offline mode and listened to music as I made breakfast. I love starting my days like this and I truly enjoyed the last few days with my Kompakt.

I leave mine in my car when I am dining with others.

In contrast, if I take it with me into a restaurant, then:

  1. It takes space on a restaurant table that is better used for dishes, etc.
  2. Its presence tells my fellow diners that they do not necessarily have my undivided attention.
  3. I have to mind it throughout the meal to ensure that I don’t spill something on it.
  4. I must remember to take it with me when we leave the restaurant.

I had my loved one call the restaurant looking for me last year when we were out for a Mudita team dinner

Did you have an experience like you can see today in movies, where the waiter brings to your table a desk phone with a long cord attached? (That always looked so fancy to me!)

The waiter brought the phone to @Sharaz, who looked super confused as to why my significant other was calling me AT THE RESTAURANT.

From my lunch time walk was nice hearing gong notifications in this setting, I felt like I was inside the harmony lol

Its amazing how daily things change as a result of changing how we use technology.

I no longer carry my phone in my hand, if I am out and bring it with me, its in my bag or I leave it in the car.

At home, it goes on a shelf and I use it if and when needed.

The offline switch is something I have only started to use recently but its a great tool and I am looking forward to customisation in 2.0!

Now all I need to do is work out how to add music as I have no clue!

Like you, I had the drum as my notification tone and changed it to the gong as it felt a little bit more calming.

You can add it via mudita center, you just downlown the app to your laptop connect the phone via usb and you can add music that way its pretty straight forward!

Its the getting music onto laptop bit that i keep giving up with!

I did sideload Spotify but it drains the battery like crazy.
