Well I just want to say I’ve ordered the Mudita Kompakt phone after a fair amount of thinking about my device usage and searching for solutions. As someone in the tech industry I have a lot of convictions about the way in which we can be more progressive with technology, particularly smart phones as I am myself an app developer. I came to the conclusion the whole design of the device, operating system, hardware and software needs to be aligned. As such only either a new OS or radically different version of Android would work to help change people’s experiences with their phone and make their usage more intentional with less distractions. What I love about this device is it seems like a neat blend and balance of toned down features and functionality with easy control (really like the ‘offline’ switch). Also the ability to sideload apps at your own risk, for someone like me that is a breath of fresh air, like the old days of computing.
I really appreciate the serious design and engineering efforts gone into this and I hope it goes from strength to strength. I also hope when my order arrives it meets my expectations. The recent sharing of many improvements that are coming is really encouraging as is the fact some of the code is available to view as open source (I think - to be honest I haven’t looked at the GitHub repositories yet!)
Are there any other products that rethink our approach to tech in the pipeline? I’m curious about the idea of minimalist headphones or smart watches, even perhaps very very(!) carefully and thoughtfully designed AI features. But I guess you have enough on your plate with the OS updates. Perhaps things like a Google Wallet style app for storing and displaying tickets (QR codes) would make sense when so many essential services and event venues are moving to using those.
Based on your statement, I believe that you will enjoy the experience. Enough here to tinker, but also “muted” enough to go about your day if you so desire.
