Is anyone else getting ghost notifications? I only have Signal and OLauncher installed. I get notification rings without any notifications sometimes. I will check both SMS and Signal and there won’t be anything new (I also check for new reaction emojis as well). The only thing I can think of is Signal auto-updating in the background. Is there any way for me to check on this?
This happened to me once a few days ago - I checked SMS, signal, whatsapp, nothing there. I have since force stopped Signal & Whatsapp so they don’t run in the background and not had this issue. For me that works - I’m happy just using the browser versions of these apps or only running them when needed on my phone, don’t use them as my main communication tool.
It happens to me, too, and I suspect that it has to do with notifications from non-native apps. Stopping those apps (if I remember to do so after using them) seems to reduce the number of “ghost” sounds.
From what I can see in the NotificationLog app, for me it is usually DuraSpeed notifying that it stopped some background apps. Or a Signal update
Notifications with Facebook messenger won’t ding unless the app is opened so it’s worthless to have that app
@The I’ve experienced this too- it’s usually from Signal. I’ve asked the team about notifications from sideloaded apps & it’s on their radar.
This is likely due to Signal (or another app) sending a notification that there is a new version to update to if you have installed the app via APK and ADB. I only have Signal installed and experienced the exact same thing. I checked the latest APK version on Signal’s website and saw that there was a newer version. After updating the app, these ghost notifications disappeared. To check the current Signal version on your phone go to Signal → the three dots in the upper right corner → Settings - > Help. There you will see the app version
If you then receive future ghost notifications, you know that you need to update the app.
I have Signal installed but no mystery so far – when I hear the audio notification, I know it’s Signal and there’s always been an unread message. But I have Signal installed on my Mac and the bloody thing wants me to update it every week. (Some developers need a psyche evaluation and treatment for Emperor Nero syndrome – “look at me, look at me!”)
Anyway, last night the phone vibrated and I couldn’t trace why it had done so. That’s the only ghost sound I’ve had so far. Still, if anyone know what’s happening, please let me know.
Thanks.
One more thing that Signal pushes is “Signal (Background connection enabled)”.
In addition there’s the Duraspeed system app that makes notifications about optimization.
But you can’t see these with the default launcher.
Yes, I’ve noticed this too.
Yes, this is it… I got a ghost notification last night and just checked - Signal did need to be updated. I updated via Aurora Store app.
That’s the other thing, Signal looks like a complete app since quite a long time ago, yet they keep updating it quite frequently.
“quite frequently”
Yes. Every bloody week.
Not a ghost Well not 100%
Check to see if you have a voicemail. I get a random “ping” when I have a new voicemail.
