i received my Kompakt 24 hours ago. I’ve been using a smartphone for about fifteen years, I think, and my last phone was a Motorola RAZR 50 Ultra, which is very powerful and technologically advanced. But I feel I need a change, to reduce the time I spend unnecessarily on my phone, to reduce my exposure to LED screens, to lessen this need for my phone to do everything, and very quickly. That’s why I bought the Mudita Kompakt, which will now be my everyday communication tool.
It will require some time to adapt and discover, and above all, to change some habits. And speaking of discovering, I’m really enjoying my first experiences with the Kompakt. Of course, those who compare it to a smartphone will be frustrated, and that’s normal. But it’s not a smartphone, or not quite. I feel like I’m going to appreciate this change, and I’m looking forward to what’s to come. From the start, I planned to sideload apps because my main way of communicating with family and friends is Telegram, or sometimes WhatsApp. Since I don’t have a network connection at home, SMS messages don’t work. I tried managing APK files myself, but I don’t know enough about it, so I installed the Aurora Store. I kept it simple and only installed a few apps that seemed essential. The only thing that doesn’t work is YouTube Music (I expected that, thanks Google), so I uninstalled it. Even though I wanted the experience to be as close as possible to the phone’s original concept, I imagine I’ll install the Katapult launcher in the near future.
For now, I’m happy, and the phone matches my expectations. However, I do have a few suggestions for improvement (perhaps I just haven’t found the solution yet, and you can help me).
First, I’d like to add a French (Swiss) keyboard. It’s unusual, but in French-speaking Switzerland (Romandie), we use a German QWERTZ keyboard. When I first set it up, having to choose between French (AZERTY) and German (QWERTZ) was a big problem for me. But I later discovered, after doing some digging, that you can customize the language and keyboard layout. However, in the long run, a pre-configured French (Swiss) keyboard would be appreciated.
Better sound settings management. Being able to easily enable/disable sound and vibration for calls, messages, and notifications (6 sliders).
Improved Mudita Center. I think it really needs to be transformed into a control center. Managing apps with Mudita Center is good, but I think that when you delete an app, it should disappear from the phone. Also, I’d like to be able to create music playlists, subfolders to organize my books, etc., directly within Mudita Center.

Welcome to the Mudita Community. As far as I know, we included support for the QWERTZ & AZERTY in the last 1.5.0 update, back in May. Could you please check what version of MuditaOS K you’re currently running on your Mudita Kompakt?
Custom sounds and notifications are currently on our roadmap for this year. However, with the most recent update, we included the ability to turn off all vibrations. There are two places where those setting can be changed. Under SETTINGS>>>SOUND & under SETTINGS>>> Accessibility
This is currently on the roadmap. However, please note, that even with a traditional smartphone, deleting the apk file from your phone does not automatically uninstall the app. It’s kind of like downloading a program .exe file onto your computer & then installing the program. If you then delete the initial .EXE file, it does not automatically uninstall the program
Yes, what I meant was that pre-configured keyboards are available in French and German (Swiss). French is by default in AZERTY, as in France. A pre-configured French (Swiss) keyboard with the French language and a QWERTZ layout is popular here in French-speaking Switzerland. However, I realise that this may represent a small share of the market and that it is neither a priority nor even an absolute necessity.
Especially as I subsequently discovered that you can configure the language and keyboard layout to suit your preferences. So I set up a French keyboard in QWERTZ layout.
