First Day & More to Come

Hello everyone,

My name is Lorenzo, and I’m new to the community. I wanted to share my experience after the first 24 hours with the Mudita Kompakt.

I had been passively searching for a “dumb phone” for a few years now. A few weeks ago I started browsing again, came across Mudita, and after watching some reviews, I decided to give it a shot. My device arrived about 11 days after ordering here in the U.S., and the process was smooth overall.

After running updates to version 1.5.0, I was able to use Mudita Center without any issues. So far, I’ve mainly explored file management and the stock OS, which I’ve really been enjoying. One of my biggest concerns going into this was navigation and maps, but the turn-by-turn feature has worked well so far, and I’m looking forward to testing it more.

The only issue I’ve encountered is with messaging. Even though I deregistered from iMessage and RCS before switching, I’ve had trouble receiving messages from contacts I previously used iMessage with. However, this seems to resolve after I place a call to those contacts, which I believe is somehow prompting their phones to switch to SMS. Messaging with Android users has worked without issue, and so far all calls have worked to my knowledge. I’ll continue monitoring this and share updates on the iMessage situation over time to see if it resolves.

In all, the experience the first day was pretty great. There was a bit of adjustment at first, but the simplicity of the device quickly made it feel comfortable and reminded me of my pre-smartphone days, which I think is exactly the point. Also, I am a huge fan of the e-ink screen.

For now, I plan to keep a secondary device nearby and use the phone’s hotspot when needed, which has worked well so far from light testing.

I’m not especially technical, so I’m unsure whether I’ll play around with sideloading apps. Moreover, I really appreciate the device as it is (especially the turn-by-turn maps). It handles day-to-day phone needs exceptionally well and when I “truly require” internet access, it’s still easily within reach.

Overall, I just wanted to introduce myself and share my excitement to support what Mudita is building here as I continue this shift toward digital minimalism and mindful tech use.

Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the community, @lorenzolap6 & thank you for sharing such a thoughtful first impression! We’re delighted to hear that your first day with Mudita Kompakt has been a positive one, especially your experience with the E Ink display, turn-by-turn navigation, and the simplicity of the device.

We also appreciate you sharing your observations about the transition from iMessage, as this may be helpful to others making a similar switch. Another thing to keep in mind, some users have reported that RCS de-activation can sometimes take up to 30 day (not always, but it does happen).
We hope Kompakt continues to serve you well, and we look forward to hearing more about your experience as you spend more time with it!
