Kompakt cannot receive contact cards sent by text. When someone shares a contact with me, the attachment does not open or arrives unusable, and there is no way to save it to Contacts.
Sharing a contact card is one of the most common ways people exchange phone numbers. It is standard on every basic phone and feature phone I have used, including older non-smart phones. It adds no distraction and no app dependency, so it fits squarely within what Kompakt is meant to be. Without it, I have to ask people to retype numbers by hand, which defeats the purpose of sharing a card and leads to errors.
Mudita staff have listed the formats the SMS app can receive by MMS: JPEG, JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF, WebP, HEIF, WBMP, and PDF. vCard (.vcf, text/x-vcard) is not on that list, so this looks like a missing feature rather than a carrier or settings issue.
Requested:
Accept .vcf attachments in incoming MMS.
Show a received card in the conversation with an “Add to Contacts” option.
Parse vCards generated by iPhone, Android, and Google, since cards from iPhone users are the most common case and Apple’s format is reportedly only partly supported.
Optionally, allow sharing a contact from Kompakt as a .vcf by MMS.
Thank you. This is a small feature that would remove a real daily friction point.
Until Mudita adds it, there is a way today. Messaging, in Community Apps here, already does this: a contact card that arrives by MMS shows in the conversation as a “Contact card” row, and tapping it hands the card to whichever app on the phone imports .vcf files, so the person goes straight into your contacts. The one catch is that Mudita’s own Contacts app does not register for .vcf files, so you need a contacts app that does. Mine, also in Community Apps, takes them; so do a few others. Sending a card works from Messaging as well, from the attachment button in a conversation.
Mudita Kompakt is an intentionally minimalist phone. We understand that there could be some friction if new users expect the same functionalities as a traditional smartphone. There’s bound to be some compromise, however, we completely understand that not everyone uses their phone the same way, that’s why I think it’s great that Mudita Kompakt is so flexible that it let’s users to customize their experience with external apps.
