Etar - OpenSource Calendar — Community App Review
Version: v1.0.55
I tested Etar Calendar on Mudita Kompakt, and overall, it feels like a good match for users who want a simple, private, and distraction-free calendar app.
Etar offers the basic views most people need: month, week, day, and agenda. The interface is clean, easy to navigate, and not overloaded with unnecessary features. It is also free, open source, ad-free, and supports offline use, which fits well with the minimalist spirit of Kompakt.
I also like that it can work with Android’s built-in calendar storage, so depending on your setup, it may display calendars from services like Google Calendar or Exchange. It also supports .ics import and export, which is useful for more manual calendar management.
However, there are a few limitations. The biggest issue I noticed was with notifications. Some event reminders were delayed or did not appear at all, possibly because of Kompakt’s battery optimization affecting apps running in the background.
Syncing can also be slow, since Etar does not have its own sync engine and relies on Android Calendar Storage. Another downside is the lack of a strong global search, which makes finding older events more difficult.
Overall, Etar is a solid option if you want a clean, lightweight, open-source calendar app for basic planning. Just make sure to test reminders carefully before relying on it for anything important.
Best for: simple calendar use, offline planning, privacy-conscious users.
Less ideal for: critical reminders, fast syncing, or searching historical events.
