Checking incoming server settings failed
Server error

The server returned the following message: Application-specific password required: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833(Failure)

Hello, sure.

Step 1: Get a Google App Password

You need an App Password from Google:

  1. Go to your Google Account settings: myaccount.google.com/apppasswords (Note: 2-Step Verification must be enabled on your Google account).

  2. Type any app name (e.g., Mudita Phone) and click Create.

  3. Google will generate a 16-letter password. Save this code—you will use it in place of your normal Gmail password.

Step 2: Incoming Mail Server Settings (IMAP) - In APP

  • Protocol: IMAP

  • Server: imap.gmail.com (make sure to type imap. before .gmail.com)

  • Security: SSL/TLS

  • Port: 993

  • Authentication: Normal password (or Plain password)

  • Username: Your full Gmail address (e.g., [email protected])

  • Password: Enter the 16-letter App Password generated in Step 1.

Click Next.

Step 3: Outgoing Mail Server Settings (SMTP)

  • Server: smtp.gmail.com

  • Security: SSL/TLS

  • Port: 465

  • Authentication: Normal password

  • Username: Your full Gmail address

  • Password: Enter the same 16-letter App Password from Step 1.

Click Next to finish, and everything should work smoothly after that

This is an awesome app. Just one feedback in terms of the UI, I’d recommend making the sidebar just appear instead of it sliding when you open it. It’s not the most ideal for eink.

Thanks for setting this up!

@stephane Thanks, that was a good call. In 0.1.14 the side menu just appears and disappears, with no slide, however you open or close it, and the folder rows stay still too. It’s on the card here and on the release page, Release 0.1.14 · wanderwildwood/tayori · GitHub, or through Obtainium as usual.

This is great - email is the only other app I needed on the Kompakt.

The only problem I’ve found is that if I create a new email and try to add an image by opening the camera, the (email) app crashes. I’m guessing it might be a permissions problem but can’t see where to allow the permission.

@mupeter thanks for the report. It wasn’t a permission problem: the Kompakt’s own camera doesn’t take photos for other apps, so Email found nothing to open and closed.

Version 0.1.17 fixes it. Open camera now uses any installed camera app that can take a photo for another app (for example Camera). If there isn’t one, it says so and points you to Attach file instead of crashing.

Glad it works now, and thank you for the llama feed. Here are some of the herd who’ll be eating it, taken on the Kompakt.
