Testing the Mudita Kompakt as my main phone for the 4th day. I do have a lot of feedback, but I’m trying to keep topics more in depth and separate and not bombard with small issues everywhere.
I keep seeing some complaints about the sharpness of the screen. Which I do agree is low-res for 2025. But probably choices are limited due to size and pricing.
However I notice some behaviors that should become features:
1.Smooth epub text
2. After exiting the ereader and re-entering again it shows the sharp mode only, so u have to change pages to get it back to smooth.
3. After timeout it just goes to a whitescreen (IMO it should show the page I was reading)
4. Dark mode, which IMO is harder to read but could be an option for those that want it.
-
I can see the anti-aliasing effect on the E-book reader
-
I can see it actually does a flickering refresh, which makes the text much smoother to read.
What I did is:
Took a screenshot of the lockscreen and converted the image to epub, which triggers the “smoothing” of the text. Left = original Right = epub screenshot -
I would suggest you implement the feature phone-wise or app-wise
-
For a lot of the static apps I don’t see the need of the “fast” no-refresh and pixelated look, when I could have a smoother display instead.
-
Because of the fast no-refresh mode there’s a lot of ghosting happening when going back and fourth with apps.
-
Add a screen-refresh shortcut (I would say allow the quick settings button to be re-mapable), since you can access the by swiping from top of the screen.
-
Add font options device-wise, I am not enjoying the current default font for the default Mudita apps. Seems to show a lot of artifacts in the edges, more so than some other fonts I tested with third-party apps/launchers.
-
Make disabling the default launcher actually possible without an adb command
-
The Arrows in the default launcher are taking 3 app spots, just make the swipe gestures more reliable
E-reader specific:
- After exiting the eEeader and going back at it it shows the font without anti-aliasing, so you have to go one page forward and then back to get the smooth text back.
- When you don’t touch the screen for 30 seconds it locks the phone, this should be a different functionality from the general “screen timeout” feature.
- When it times-out sometimes it just shows a blank screen (not even the Mudita Kompakt logo), and sometimes it does show the logo, which I think both are useless. Keep the current page I was reading “burned” until I open up and refresh the page or close the app.
Dark mode (android-wise) is not implemented, though digging down u can activate an accessibility feature that inverses the screen. IMO it makes reading harder than white mode, so you shouldn’t use it. One think this feature was helpful though is by clicking it refreshes the screen fully which removes the ghosting on the display, hence why I’m requesting a refresh feature and Different speed modes for the e-ink display.
Hope this helps, I tested this and wrote this during my work break.
