SO long story short I had an accident on the weekend. Car spun out of control on a gravely road and I went into a ditch, lucky to be alive just some minor whiplash. Really lucky the car did not flip over. Luckily a driver saw me and was able to call 911. I was unable to use my light phone. Now I am in Canada using Lucky mobile and I was unable to call anyone. I was a bit up north but not too far north, I should have been able to make calls. Made me realize the importance of really having a more reliable phone when I am hiking, if I needed to reach someone I could not have. Now luckily when the light phone 3 comes out it will be 5g and I am going to switch to telus. But it was some scary moments on the weekend
All dumbphone companies need to make sure their phones can reliably call when you need them the most!
@cardio79 Glad you are ok, that is really scary. Definitely it is important to be able to call someone in emergencies, making reliability a key function.
I am curious if the phone has the call emergency function?
I was in situation a few years ago in a remote area with a friend, our rental got stuck in the mud after dark and no houses in sight, and my iPhone did not have service (was either Tmobile or Ting). When the phone is out of service it does still allow emergency calls (not 911) and it got me connected to the nearest police dept. I had no idea where we were and they were able to locate me via my phone signal (despite no bars).
@cardio79 This is a SUPER scary situation and I think I speak for everyone when I say, we are glad you’re OK. BUT BOY- That’s just awful what happened.
I know you like your LightPhone, but I don’t understand why it doesn’t have access to the emergency line. Is it because it’s not 5G? Or something else.
If someone have an older phone, or a dumbphone, are they out of luck as well?
Luckily the LP3 will be 5G
Not sure to be honest I wouldn’t think so…all I know is when I tried to call 911 it did not work. Luckily someone saw my car crash and they had a smartphone
I have a light phone 3 and I use it on freedom mobile, which is not a 5G network. Whenever I leave the city or the main areas, I can’t call anyone because I have no service. But a friend may have service on their phone because they’re connecting to the 5G. I typically rely on friends to get around if I’m travelling within my province or outside of it! Is the Mudita going to have access to 5G?
@somastudy I’ll ask our team about this, because I’m also curious. However, I just want to clarify something- are you saying that in Canada, phones ONLY work on 5G- not even on 4G LTE or VoLTE?
