Detect when in pocket when receiving calls, FEATURE REQUEST

Hello to all.
So when receiving calls while the phone is in my pocket, when i try to take it out it answers or hangs up the call. So the possibility to detect when it is in pocket should be implemented, it has a proximity sensor so just a software fix l should do that I believe.
I am using my kompakt for a month now and i am eagerly waiting for the next update to see all these small fixes that are promised.

All in all it’s a great little device and has reduced my screen time a lot.

My phone always answers in my pocket and it drivers my wife mad, haha.
Please, Mudita, make so that you answer with a swipe or something and not just a tap.

You could swipe it also while taking it out of your pocket.

Could be, but it’s less likely. I have had my Samsung A40 since 2019, and it has never answered in my pocket with the swipe function.

I’m going to bump this topic, because I have the same problem. The touchscreen is very sensitive. When I get a phonecall and I take the phone out of my pocket, it has often already answered or denied the call. It’s really annoying, and of all the bugs that my Kompakt has, this is the one that would have me stop using the phone no matter how much I love it otherwise. I don’t have the SMS or emergency call bug, because that would also be a showstopper.

PS: I would actually like to hear from the team when they are going to resolve this, preferably for the September update. I use my Kompakt also for work. I cannot have colleagues or clients calling me and then half the time I either hang up on them just to call back 10 seconds later, or they hear rustling 5 seconds followed by ‘Hello…?’. That’s just wildly unprofessional.

+1, that is exactly my problem as well.

@nilss & @denguefeber I’ve passed this on to the team & I’m asking for feedback. This seems to me that it’s different than the regular pocket dial/emergency dial that had to deal with the fingerprint sensitivity issue (which the team addressed in this update).

Thanks. It is indeed related but not the same. Both fingerpint sensor and screen are (too) sensitive.

  • The pocket dial/emergency dial issue is caused by the fact that the fingerprint sensor is so sensitive. It unintentionally opens the pin code screen in your pocket. But because the screen is so sensitive, the emergency call button is inadvertently pushed and then also the numbers. This issue should be resolved now with OS 1.2 because a wrong fingerprint no longer takes you to the pin code screen.
  • Current issue is that when you receive a phone call, the phone shows the screen with the reject/answer buttons. But because the screen is so sensitive, one of the buttons gets pushed while the phone is still in your pocket (and not even when you reach for it). This could easily be solved by having a swipe action instead of a push action for reject/answer, something other touchscreen phones do for the same reason.

+1, tap+swipe would solve it.

IMHO this is not a pocket detection problem. When the phone is locked, we should see a swipe button to answer the call, and when it is not locked we should have a tap button to answer the call. No need to use the proximity sensor.

Actually, there is still need for the proximity sensor here.
If you want to ignore the call while it is ringing in your pocket, and the call manages to stay unanswered, the screen remains on after the call ends. I’ve pulled my phone out of my pocket after ignoring/missing a call only to find that my pocket had tried to unlock the phone numerous times (you get a notificaiton that you have to wait x many seconds before you can try unlocking it again).
@urszula The solution needs to involve the proximity sensor; if the phone is ringing, the screen shouldn’t actually be turning on until the sensor is uncovered (phone is out of pocket).

@paxristi I’ve asked our team to give me some feedback and to clarify what could be happening in your case, and most importantly, what’s the plan to get it to stop happening. I will come back once they return with a response.
