There is a slew of suggestions in this forum to make the Kompakt software better, for me, as an out of box user, it’s overwhelming.
I share some of your frustrations in other posts, and I hope the critiques are not taken as criticism, rather as suggestions for improvements.
I tried using the phone as is for a short duration, then considered using it for drop and crush testing. Instead, I am using the phone as a whole basically for amusement while looking forward to incremental improvements.
The owner on a company I worked for was a minimalist, when it came to running his business, he used the concept of “tightening the screws until they squeak, then back off a little.”
I think Mudita may have tightened the screws on capability of the base operating system for the Kompakt by disabling some basic functions, such as the Android clock app includes useful functions that are hidden.
Proper tools are important for proper function. In the same company a manufacturing manager demonstrated its possible to put a nut on a bolt faster with a hammer, than a wrench.
Lesson learned? You’re product is screwed if you don’t allow users access to the proper tools.
I disagree, I think the phone is very useful out of the box. You can play catch with it, use it as a paperweight, or throw it at people you don’t like. You can light it on fire, fidget with the little switchey thing on the side, or use it as a cutting board for very small vegetables. The possibilities are endless!

(Seriously though, while I do have legitimate criticisms of Mudita’s very slowww pace of development or lack of basic functionality, I find the phone very usable with some sideloading and happily daily drive it without a backup)
I think just like anything else, it does take some time to get used to.
I quickly learned I can’t use it as a phone all the time.
